    Hi.

Very weird question but does anyone know how the seat numbering works for RTC. First time booking with them and got my Seat Number through for the Sussex Belle. Seat 29B. Now I understand B means back to the loco. Is 29 a window seat or aisle seat?

Having tried to work this out myself in the past:

Assuming it's Standard class (2+2 seating), then usually it'd be numbered
    1 Window, 2 Aisle | 3 Aisle, 4 Window
    5 Window, 6 Aisle | 7 Aisle, 8 Window
    9 Window, 10 Aisle | 11 Aisle, 12 Window
    etc.

So if you divide the seat number by 4, if the remainder is 0 or 1, it's a Window, if the remainder is 2 or 3, it's Aisle.
So 29/4 = 7 remainder 1, so in theory should be a Window.

For first class (2+1), you divide by 3 instead, with remainder 0 or 1 = Window, 2 = aisle.

Obviously may vary if any carriages have odd seating arrangements.

Thank you. This is really helpful. I'm in Standard class.

Was hoping for a window seat but was expecting not to get one.

If in doubt, it’s always worth putting in a seating request for a window seat for any future bookings. RTC are very good at honouring them, where possible of course.

Yes, put it in the booking notes and they will usually honour it.
