The last steam locos to work a train on the Worcester -Hereford line were 4936 and 5029 on the 4th October 2008. Since then it seemed as though steam had been 'banned' from this route, although 6201 came this way with the Royal Train in July (albeit with a diesel on the front). Perhaps steam isn't allowed to work through the tight Ledbury and Colwall tunnels? Or it may be gauging? Who knows?!

Seems The Welsh Borders is running after all. It was removed from the website for admin reasons which prevented bookings being accepted. See reply from RTC to my query below :-

Thank you for your email. I can confirm that the Welsh Borders train is now available to book again, it was removed for a couple of days as was uploaded to the website before the back office system was ready to accept bookings. Sorry for any confusion.

    Kind regards

Interesting tour on 11th May - 70013 from Kings Cross to Skegness and back, but with 61994 working the leg from Sleaford to Skegness. However, uksteam is showing 61994 working the Cardiff to Shrewsbury leg of The Cathedrals Explorer the day before (and then from Stanhope to Whitby the following Wednesday). Whilst I suppose it is theoretically possible for the K4 to get from Shrewsbury on Friday evening to Sleaford in time to work to Skegness on Saturday, it does seem rather unlikely and I suspect one of these is going to change.

Steam Dreams won't like that! Still, nothing wrong with a bit of healthy competition!

That looks a good reason to shut shop for the day and take a ride on the LSWR.

This looks like the closest to the original attempt created to date.
The fare is also somewhat cheaper than the last attempt in 2008.

Just Cant help thinking it's too optimistic though.. steam through Piccadilly, Oxford Road to Bolton, though it is a sunday morning.

    Trip does look tempting.. 44871 + 44932 (renumbered as 44781), 45305 and 70013..
This trip is one to watch.

I was dubious when they advertised steam through Picc on the Holyheads last year, but they did happen - again on a Sunday morning.

The return trip seems a bit confused in the Manchester area - return to Picc, then loco change and Vic and return via the CLC to Liverpool. Approximate timings shown Vic as the set down station, but you can't get to the CLC from Vic (not unless they re-build Blind Lane curve as advocated by a certain former member). Suspect it's either return to Vic then via Earlestown to Liverpool, or return as outward through Picc, loco change at Longsight and then back via Picc and the CLC.

No sign as yet of any Sussex or Kentish Belles for 2013. Still, with RTC putting up a few new trips at a time, it may be that they will appear at a later date.
Quite an ambitious programme, even with nothing else added.

Seems like Braunton is going to have a busy year this year. Great that the Welsh Borderer has been reinstated.

Good to see that there's a Bath and Bristol listed from Three Bridges on 29th June (same month as the Littlehampton to Weymouth Royal Wessex albeit Diesel hauled up to and back from London with 34046 inbetween) although with 34067 once again (as much as I like 34067 it would be nice to have a bit of variety although I can sort understand that as 34067 was built at Brighton and goes via Chichester not far from where her name's from.

I hope this is not a repeat of promising an engine before it's been cleared with the owners - something that I recall the RTC is known for doing. That said, the programme, as described is a good one but it does make you worry about the extent to which some of this may be speculative.

As always there is likely to be some chopping and changing as different locos become available and unavailable and no doubt gauging will rear it's ugly head - we all have to be realistic in our expectations here. The world of Network rail planning, weather, steam age technology, 'operating issues' and numerous other factors will no doubt provide hours of speculation and words of wisdom on here for months to come - would we have it any other way?! However, hats off to RTC for having the guts to come up with yet another ambitious and adventurous programme, despite a difficult trading year for operators last year. Unlike some other operators, there are also trips to suit most budgets meaning us normals can continue to enjoy our hobby without having to win the lotto. Once again the UK will be the world leader in steam hauled trips on the mainline with it possible to travel to pretty much all ends of the country behind steam.

Hi, like the look of the Coast to Coast, July 13th. Be a treat to myself after the charity bike ride in June.

That doesn't sounds like a bad itinery on paper, if the departure time isn't too silly then it opens up a large part of the West Midlands as a catchment area, might consider a run on it myself.

Edit: has 10ish outbound and before 21:30 on the return as provisional timings, very sociable, could make that on a service train from Brum.

Nice route that. No doubt 5029 will be odds on favourite given it's proposed move to the SVR.

You'd certainly think so, 34067 and 70000 are likely to be forever moving about than being at one base for any period of time, I assume the limiting factor load wise would be the climb out of Bristol up to Filton on the return ?, a class 7 should manage 10 at least on that alright, though that said Nunney herself could end up doing quite a few light engine moves between Bridgnorth & Barton Hill in summer.

Think the lineside of the Settle and Carlisle may be very busy on Sunday 11th August. Two steam specials travelling both directions with 70013, 44871 and 44932 on the 15 Guinea Special and either 46115 or 45699 on the Waverley...

Another thought occurs, with the Reading issue, how are WCRC going to manage getting stock between Southall & Bristol for the Royal Duchy & Weymouths ?, a possible reversal and LSWR to Salisbury - Westbury etc ?.
