I expect the stock will come from Southall and be the stock used on the Mid Week Dorset Coast Expresses and the Weymouth Seaside Expresses/ Royal Duchy's on the Sunday. I wonder if there enough support crews for 5029, 70000 and 34067? 5029 is also down for the Torbay's ( probably only early and late season) and the Weymouth Seaside Expresses.

I believe Vintage Trains were considering running to Minehead.

I have noticed RTC and Statesman both have trips from Birmingham - Canterbury ( Diesel - London and 34067 from London).

On the 3 days they are running the Kidderminster to Minehead trips the stock could go via the Chiltern line for that trip and down to Bristol afterwards, and return to Southall via Salisbury.

And when you get to Scarborough, you should find Tornado there too, with a Cathedrals Express from Kings Cross.

RTC might be spreading their train stewards a bit thin on some Sundays this summer. For example, on Sun 28th, they are advertising The Waverley (York-Settle-Carlisle), The North Wales Coast Express (Liverpool-Chester-Holyhead) and The Weymouth Seaside Express (Bristol-Weymouth).

I think they were doing this last year though. I just wonder what will happen when they add that special w/the 3 black 5's and 70013.

Not to mention the fact that West Coast will need to find crews for no fewer than 7 locos on 11th August (1x Vintage Trains Shakespeare Express, 1x RTC Weymouth Seaside Express, 1x RTC Waverley, 4x RTC 15 Guinea Special.)

And possibly one diesel tour the previous day from the north east to Dundee.

    Seven locomotives?
Would that be a little too ambitious? Sticking to the 2 5305 locomotive associations beasts would bring the number down to 5. It would take the authenticity away though. I don't think that RTC would like that.

I don't know if Sellouts of the Weymouth and Waverly tours would have an impact.

I think you have missed the point Mike, there needs to be 4 locos on the "15 Guinea Special", or else it would completely lose any semblance of authenticity should only 5305 and the Brit were used. The loading on the others will have no impact on the crewing needs.

A small wager on no Waverley that day is in order.

No problem Mike, I think that most of us realise that it is sometimes difficult to appreciate the UK steam charter scene, unless you are actually here, or have been and seen it for yourself.

I was thinking along those lines myself, especially as not all the repeat itinerary tours originally advertised for 2012 actually ran !

No real problem here. There are likely to be paths available for engine and stock movements through Reading in the early hours of the morning, except on those relatively few occasions when there is a full blockade.

I know this is some time away yet David and is indeed only a part of a weekend but you don't seem to have an entry for the British bits of the Golden Arrow at the end of May.
Any reason for that? It's been postponed twice I know but as I'm on it....

I woulden't take that as gospel given the track record of accuracy of things wrote in the mags isn't brilliant, I think Ben Jervis who is involved with Nunney is on the forum ?.

Hi David as and when 5029 is ready our confirmed tours will be posted on 5029's website, sorry I know that is really vague but until work is completed it is difficult to be more specific.

During one of the discussions as to why no tours leave NE England, i made reference to a tour company linking up with a local evening newspaper to publicise the trips, and maybe start and fill seats.

Newcastle Evening Chronicle tonight, advert in association with RTC for this :-

    Heart of Midlothian

You never know, RTC may be listening, if they are well done, keep it up.

UKsteam.info doesn't show this yet, but the West Somerset Expresses from Kidderminster to Minehead on 13 July, 24 Aug and 7 Sept have been cancelled for operational reasons. There's a short apology on the RTC news page and they are no longer listed on the UK Day Trips page.
