A nice and confident down journey, despite a chaotic South Western mainline trying its best to undo us. 44871 made a good fist of Grateley with a minimum of 43 at milepost 73 1/4. Equally as great was 50 at Semley and 36 into Buckhorn Weston Tunnel.

Yes, those do sound like respectable speeds. Good luck with the climb to Milborne Port this evening. 8 mins from departing Sherborne to passing Templecombe is a bit of a challenge!

Yes it was OK. Trouble is you get used to Clan Line which is not only a class 8 but in a different league to anything else on the main line at the moment. Must look out my runs with class 5s over this route in the 1960s, which weren't many.

Minimum was 21.5, was holding 23 until a slip not far from the top. Was a rather tight booking and we dropped 4 and a half minutes but it was a defiant effort.

Bowled good and proper. I can just imagine your language, ''Oh dear, that was jolly bad luck''.
I could feel the frustration as the film appeared to unfold in slow motion. <BJ>

Wow that's a rather sweeping statement, you are saying that Clan Line is superior to Duchess of Sutherland, Union of South Africa, British India Line and Tornado. What rubbish.

I read that as 46233 and 60009 are not extended much these days and Tornado is off the mainline at the moment. BIL put in a strong run over the S&C in May, but has not had chance to do anything noteworthy since.

The fact that 6233 & 60009 are not being extended does not make them inferior, and BIL has put in some strong runs over Shap with the Santa trains in the last three weeks.

Yup, bit of a pie eater that ole Santa, and the reindeer clock in at a fair few kilos apiece.

Them not being extended makes them inferior to a timers context. That doesn't take anything away from them in a different context.

No it isn't rubbish. On recent and current performance it's in a league of its own. Show me a recent performance by any you mention which disproves this.
