    With a DSLR it's not the shutter you can hear but the mirror going up and down. The higher end Canons (maybe other makes too) do have "silent" mode where the mirror movement is damped. This reduces but does not eliminated the noise.

    Yes, I had 34006 Bude on a fairly nondescript run on the down Belle with 10 plus two bogie vans early in 1967. Three TSRs provided no incentive to push her along and we dropped 5 minutes on the 93 schedule to Soton. You win some and lose some.

    I still remember the restart at Soton. Typical unrebuilt. The train had to reverse half way to Northam Junction before Bude could snatch the pullmans away. Hopefully the post lunch coffee wasn't being served at this point although I suspect that the stewards on board would know better!
