    The service also dropped off RTT at the time, so there's no clue about what happened. However, thankfully, the delay eventually resolved itself.

    At a guess, and considering 70013 slipped a few times beyond Dorrington, it may well have been caused by extremely poor railhead conditions.

    Thanks, poor railhead condition is probably the answer. ( And very likely all delays for the rest of the day on the N&W were put down to that...) The Saturday morning RHTT is only booked as far as Craven Arms at about 0230 on Saturday morning, so there was plenty of time for the rails to get coated. http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/H24211/2017/11/24/advanced
