There will be no mk2 on the back as there are no dual braked mk2s.
Riviera only have air braked mk2s. 70013 is vacume brake only, just to make life more interesting.

As you say, 70013 is vac only, so it must be a West Coast operation and so it may be one of their sets, rather than Riviera.

Uk Steam states that the Royal Scot Set OM02 is dual air/vacuum braked. Therefore RTC's usual set could be used with 70013.

Yes but DBS don't run Vac? Or do you mean RTC's normal WCRC set,not been with them for 8 months so you'll have to forgive my ignorance :)

    Cheers,
    Mark

Some of the coaches in OMO2 may be dual braked, but the Mark 2 TSOs are air only.

This is an interesting point. As has been said it must be West Coast as 70013 is vacuum, so it will not be OM2, I’d predict, as WCRC have plenty of coaches available so why hire from Riveria? The last vac braked train over the Devon Banks I think was 5051 back in 2005, anybody remember another? That was in the days of support on one end and brake on the other, the train was not turned. It is possible I believe to run with Support coach on the end and the loco as the barrier vehicle at the front. Still the whole train is turned at Plymouth. This support coach solution I believe has been proposed in the past but was been vetoed by NR due to the extra shunting required at the start of the run. If steam comes on a Bristol Parkway I’d be surprised is such a manoeuvre is practical, but maybe that’s why the plan is to use Parkway not Temple Meads, where it was understood to be a problem in the past.

West coast have plenty of Vac Mk2 available in the Green train so this could be another solution.

Don't Riviera have one set that is dual braked....

I thought the choc cream set was all mk1 provisionally and the blood and custard with incorrect coach roundels / 1st class stripes was the set with mk2s in it? I'm sure Riviera could put a dual braked set together assuming they are still certifying the vacuum gear?

Just had a browse through the brochure that came today and I see a Cumbrian Mountain advertised 8th & 29th August that runs from Crewe via Manchester Piccadilly. Question therefore is when was steam last in Piccadilly? :-k

    Woo Hoo

    Dobbin at his best!

Our train departs Crewe around 07.30 steam hauled, taking the line over Chat Moss to join the West Coast Main Line near Golborne.................. we call at Bolton.......(that'll take some doing via Golborne!)...............and Preston for customers

Do you think he meant "Our train departs Crewe around 07.30 steam hauled via Wilmslow and past the Jodrell Bank telescope towards Manchester where we pick up passengers at Manchester Victoria before going forward via Bolton to Preston"

Steam via platform 14 at Piccadilly in the rush hour - in your dreams! and northbound via Bolton and Chorley - are the arches now cleared for steam again after last autumn's blockade?

i think we should be told!

She arrived late on a Friday night terminaing in the main train shed - not running through the congested 13/14 in rush hour.

It will be very interesting to see what transpires

With regard to the latest RTC brochure, does anyone know where the front cover photograph of 45407 credited to a Mr. Bob Green was taken?

    Cheers

From a Rare breeds animal park near Plockton on the Kyle of Lochalsh line (hence the Llama!). Favourite with PSOV on their mainline videos and can be seen on Mainline 2008 VOl 1 on 'The North Briton' sequence with 45407 which i guess is when Bob Green's pic was taken.

Many thanks for that. I will be following Great Britain 11 from Cumbria north and was hoping it was taken around Plockton.
