Please forgive us RHM. We do tend to get a teensy bit tetchy from time to time when someone doesn't get one of our precious train spotting terms exactly right. ;)

But take away our pocket full of pens, jackets with railway badges all over them, our spotters note books and mums jam sandwiches made yesterday evening then we are all very close to being normal. :)

Except me of course, so please don't join in the nonsense about Yetis not existing!

    Hi All.

Discovered the site a little while ago while my renewed interest in all things steam/rail had me googling at an exponential rate; I've been reading since - it looks like a great resource. This is my first post, so thought I'd say hello (and go on record that I'll try to avoid mistakes; but also that I'm far less knowledgeable than the rest of you, so with both those things in mind, might not say much!).

I don't think it'd be right to go through the whole 'he said she said you said I said' bit on here, but someone who I'd hope wasn't winding me up said that he thought Guardsman's inner cylinder was in bits at the moment; I was just wondering if any of you knew any more about this (perhaps it's out of date 'news' - if not completely erroneous)?

..I'm hoping that it's in some way inaccurate, because I'm really hoping to see Gaurdsman on this run.

    All the best,

    Rob.

There is a rumour that Galatea may well be on this instead of Scots Guardsman.

Another rumour going around is that it's steam back to Liverpool. But it IS a rumour.

And after all the pedantry lineside rumours suggest that 46115 is to be replaced by 45699 !

Is it possible to get to Milford Loop on foot, without trespassing? I know it's not far from Sherburn in Elmet

Yes it is, I've seen cars parked on a lane alongside the sidings where the hydrant is that water is taken from.

It's a simple walk down the A162 from Sherburn Station, there is a bridge as pointed out by Ralph which is shown here: http://streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=45...archp=ids.srf&dn=690&ax=450469&ay=431515&lm=0

Standing on top of there will get you the shot of the engine coming off the train and heading for York. Again, there is another bridge at the other side of Milford Sidings where you could get the train entering Milford.

Realtimetrains reports that this is starting at Man Vic due to a problem with a coach.

Any news of the motive power?

Bet there were some pretty full Pacers on that route early this morning! From a quick look at National Rail, only 2 local trains available to get to Manchester Victoria in time.
