I think I need to make it clear that the S160 has fully working brakes and has had since its first test runs it was just unable to create its own air due to some delays with the air pump. The class 33 diesel was basically being used as an air compressor.

We certainly would not have used the S160 on a 1 in 40 gradient with no brakes fitted!

A good point. I was fully aware of that but I accept that others may not have been. 'Air compressor support vehicle' doesn't have the same ring as a DBT, though!

The loco was in steam yesterday to test the air pump and to set the steam heat system.

I believe that the loco will be in steam again today to sign off the brake system followed by further running in over the weekend.

Subject to availability the loco will be in use on the Santa trains as well as the Cauldon Lowe specials between Christmas and New Year.

    Regards

    Chris
