What happened to the last one?

I note that for £50 I just get "thank you for believing in my project". For £1000 I get a free cab ride! Woohoo!

I'd have thought that the results from the previous attempt would suggest that this is just not a viable appeal. @stuartreeder, just looking very briefly at the other appeals, you have none of the credibility they have. If I thought that anyone was likely to give a serious donation, I would be reporting this to crowdfunder as an unviable project that brings railway preservation and the idea of crowd funding into disrepute. As it is, it is so lame that it's not necessary. Pull it.

WHY??? You couldn't make it up.

So now there are two appeals running together, you're actually trying to raise £70,000. Maybe the owners are jacking the price up now you've shown you hand?

...and the previous appeal had £12 pledged with only a week or so to go, so Stuart just renewed the appeal and it now appears to have 28 days remaining (even though it'll have been running for circa 60 days by the time it ends).

The article in 'Railtube' (publicised on the 1498 Facebook page) says "As you are all aware we have finally got agreement in order to be able to secure 1498s future however there is still a long way to go..." which seems to imply that the unit has been purchased/loaned or some agreement made (and that all readers would be somehow aware of this fact). However the article goes on to say "The cost of moving the 3 car set will be in the region of £4,000 plus applicable VAT at 20%. ..plus the cost of buying the set, for which we will need about £20,000+" which reveals that no such agreement has been made since the purchase price is quoted as "about £20,000+"

Oh and on 14/01/16 you did state on the Facebook page that you would be donating to your own project - as there have only been 2 pledges of £10 and £2 then you either haven't bothered to donate/pledge or you think so poorly of your own project that you can't even make a reasonable donation.

Seriously Stuart, you are just digging yourself a bigger and bigger hole (a £70,000 hole) until no one will ever take you seriously even if you say you're going to the corner shop to buy milk...

Both appeals are still current, they are on different appeal sites.

I was specifically referring to the original appeal which was extended because only 2 people pledged, but I agree that he is now effectively asking for £70k through 2 appeals.

    Madness!

Not sure of the precise ins & outs, but because they coudl cover the duties from within the "standard" SWT fleet rather than requiring 2 non-standard units that couldn't work elsewhere. I think the power was upgraded to allow 450s to do the duty.

Pity really - Lymington might have made a nice home for some preserved EMU's
