Didnt LMS have a couple of spare sets of frames made to speed up the overhaul process ?

I read somewhere that parts for 6100 were found with markings stamped 6399 (experimental "Fury").
Maybe "swapped parts" is worth a thread on it's own.

One spare set of frames was made at Crewe. As you say, this was done to speed up the overhaul process because the frames on many locos between nos 5000and 5461 suffered from frame cracking. Not all the locos received different frames. For instance 45407 still has the original set, but 45337 does not.

That's hardly a civil comment, is it? And I presume you are implying that Mr. Butler is one of the 'nerds' in question? If this is the case, then I think you owe him an apology, particularly as he was asking a question any industrial archaeologist might ask. This is a rare chance to accurately tell a particular locomotive's story whilst putting it back into steam.

I did hear from someone in the know that when 925 was last overhauled in BR days and being the last schools to be overhaul by BR all remaining new parts from the stores were fitted to 925.

We've been down this road before and I'm sure someone can turn up the necessary thread(s) but history is riddled with locos changing identity and almost always for accounting purposes. Black 5's are a good case where there are at least 282 recorded frame changes, some loco numbers swapping frames twice. Of existing locos, 45110's present frames were originally 45297, 45337 came from 45280, 45305 from 45019, 45428 from 45063 and 45025 from 45362. I've probably missed some, as well. On industrial locos, the APCM Swanscombe fleet was well known for changes of identity, the worksplates being kept with the boiler as these were swapped around so, of the four survivors, most, if not all, carry the wrong identity. Middleton's 3860 has the frames from 3717 but Quainton claim to have that loco. I think they have the frames of 3715, which is supposedly at the Colne Valley Railway. I'm not sure about the other one, which is claimed to be 3718 but I bet it isn't.

I remember reading somewhere, wish I could remember where, that the Southern used the frames as a means of identity. Obviously as the overhauls were speeded up in the 1920s then boilers and certain other large parts/assemblies would be replaced, if needed, to keep to strict input times. The Southern in particular played musical tenders, interesting when the loco numbers were painted on them.

Aah, but you forget Bulleid Pacific, this is Nat.Pres. where people such as coalwagon can be discourteous and insulting just as the mood takes them. The fella should apologise, (but I doubt he will have the decency to do it)

Somehow, sometime, we really need a new broom to sweep through Nat Pres and maybe other parts of the UK Heritage scene re the way we all too often communicate with each other.

Signs of it do emerge from time to time. Like the guy who made a mistake in his posting here recently, and then had the courage to apologize about it. Takes a lot to do that.

We've all gone over the top with comments from time to time. I am no exception to that.

So when I'm making a post I try and think it's part of a chat I am having face to face with a fellow enthusiast I get on with quite well.

Now back to the Schools Class. Not quite 30925, but I've started to digitise my entire photo collection, not just my 1960s SR steam. Sorting through my 6cm x 6cm slides at present. Got a few thousand of those! Mainly South African Steam and UK aircraft 1979 -1985. But I used to go to the Bluebell to test new lenses etc. Already found a few nice shots of 31263, (H class), and yesterday a couple of 30928 "Stowe". Those latter were in my "reserve" or "spares" collection. So I am hopefully of finding a few more of that loco circa 30 years ago. Really pleased I took those now!

I have apologized to you and very much regret my outburst.

Should you wish to discuss this further , you have my private E-Mail address from when you got in touch about contacting certain people on the Mid-Hants, and of course my updates about wagon group progress.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Best regards

Yes it is. There are very strict controls imposed on companies carrying out asbestos removal work and part of that involves preventing the risk of asbestos being released as part of removal works. That is why an air lock (are three required?) is used to prevent fibres from being released into the atmosphere.

    Regards,

    Dan

At first glance that boiler looks to be in very good condition ,did the restoration in 1960 include the boiler ? because when you concider the ashpan looks to be almost new, it makes you wonder, it of course helps that she has been kept under cover all the time lets hope that the boiler exam finds the boiler in good condition wont it be really good if all she needed was a re tube and localised re staying when you think at one point she was thought to be not restorable because of a suspect axle
