I am looking to contact the owner of the above loco as I have a works plate from it available. [IMG]

Sorry can't help there. I've edited my post as it appears, on re-reading it, to be an announcement from 2014 with today's date on it - strange!

I saw it at Barry in March, I believe it's now there for the duration.

It has two works plates at the moment, although I can't advise on their originality. A picture of one attached, the other is similar.

I don't have any contact details for the owner, but the Barry Tourist Railway should be able to put you in touch.

A somewhat unusual looking Sentinel plate I would suggest. Various oddities firstly such as Sentinel plates were usually hand stamped with the works number - whereas on this its cast in. The other lettering should stand proud of the back plate rather than here it looks to be the reverse. Is the picture not a mould taken as a pressing off a Sentinel plate? For comparison see Robins picture above of the actual plate fitted to the loco. Rather strange.

Wouln't you expect that to be a mirror image though? Or am I confusing myself? So indeed, rather strange.

Is it me or is something odd happening with the image of the works plate. when I click on it it looks fine at first - raised lettering etc on a red textured background - then changes after a short time to look like a positive image but with reversed high/low, so looking like a vinyl mould but not in negative image form.

Or do I need to take more water with it ...?

I saw the reversed version when I first looked at the image, but now it looks correct with raised letters.

    Nice optical illusion!
Just goes to show photos do lie after all - or at least they can be deceptive. That's without going into colours...
To be, the plate looks identical to the one on the loco.
