    It also confirms yet again the quantity and quality of skill sets that the heritage sector generates thus confirming to many (young) volunteers that heritage railway involvement generates skills that often leads to full time employment within the industry; volunteering is often seen as equally valuable as a degree with the bonus of immediate application of skills. My sons were well considered for employment because they had gained the Gold Award in the Duke of Edinburgh's Scheme - yet another non-academic qualification that is valued by employers.
