It certainly wasn’t passed for passenger use then so maybe.

Myself and my friends go to stance regarding grumpy old men who behave like that is to try and pull funny faces and make farting noises in front of them whilst videoing.

There’s also been the occasional occurrence on the footbridge at Bewdley when someone’s been asked to move their tripod before it gets shoved somewhere…

You could be right on this John, but how would this affect the brake van rides that have occurred there in the past though?

A really enjoyable 2 days in the valley. Friday mornings (nearly) non stop run behind Pendennis felt almost mainline (when not crawling over the 5mph restrictions). Then after the afternoon damp, the chilly evening produced some atmospheric runs. The fiery glow reflected in Erlestoke's exhaust as she barked up Eardington bank was a great finish to virtually 12 hours riding (at £28...amazing value). A commute up and down the line on Saturday resulted in...

I always thought it was the lack of point lock was the main issue.

It’s the lack of a lock, people forget it’s technically not a loop but a siding with two access routes, which would be fine for brake van rides.

Looks like a great few days!

Is Pendennis still leaking a bit from the front end or were the cylinder drains open in those pics?

Splendid photos, something you said about 'lining up the gallery' on the platform gave you away. You made good use of the light on that departing pannier.

A thought about Highley. Watching the to and fro with shunting the locals isn't there space for a proper passing loop and platform?

There never has been a second platform at Highley, historically the majority of its traffic was from the 2 colliery’s there.

Indeed but it would give the SVR more flexibility in train movements with a proper passing loop. The shunting I saw at Highley was really slow and messy.

I spent about 5 hours at the SVR Steam gala on Saturday 15th travelling from first 7714 Kidderminster to Bewdley, 78018 on to Highley and finally 4930 Hagley Hall to Bridgnorth, then full length back to Kidderminster behind 43106.

There are loops and sidings at those stations either side of Highley to give that flexibility though. As Highley has been marketed as the stop for the Engine House I can’t imagine anyone being chuffed about having to pass through it non stop or not being able to disembark from their train as it passes through.
I’ve not been home this weekend so I can’t comment on the shunting operations.

As I said earlier, on Friday 4555 managed to run round utilising the far loop and completed its shunting well within the alloted time. 78018 didn't start it's run round procedure until the up train had cleared and utilised the platform road. It was still in the loop at departure time, eventually leaving 10 minutes late. Multiplied up over the day you could see how this would build up.
Whether this was due to the extra train length or another reason I don't know, but the timetable was clearly expecting 78018 to do the same as 4555.
