Sadly 34053 reported elsewhere as having suffered a serious middle cylinder problem on a SVR service train today.

Looking on another web site the middle cylinder cover has blown off.

Its noted as a possibility on SVR online. Without wanting to sound like a lemon- why does it seem to be a trend to not mention the source of information from other sites such as the works and SVR online?

INMHO there may be a reluctance to quote a source when the information in tthat source is itself third hand. Is the information accurate or repeated speculation. The problem is official sources are slower to respond than thr rumour mill. There is however reliable information on the SVR forum that a serious failure occured to SKP and traffic was seriously didrupted

The SVR website has confirmed piston and cylinder danage in the loco availability page.

Depending upon your point of view this could be seen to relieve or increase the pressure on the loco dept management.

Care to explain that apparent dichotomy? And are you implying that SVR's loco dept management are in some way under more pressure than that of your average heritage railway?

Not shure how this will decrease pressure on loco dept. The repairs are extra work they had not planned and whilst not in use and hence nothing else can break they still have to try to deliver the returns to service estimated for this year. It appears that repairs are going ahead so SKP appears not to be completely sidelined.

I'd take the post in question with a pinch of salt, as I think the poster might be alluding to the issue of Bulleids spending a fair amount of time under maintenance. Secondly, he/she hasn't exactly been particularly favourable about anything on NatPres recently. Furthermore, he/she does share a moniker with a former GWR general manager...

I too am unsure as to what poster louis.pole is trying to imply.

The fact is that repairs are underway on the locomotive, and it is not "sidelined".

Undoubtedly this unplanned repair will eat into staff time on routine maintenence of the remaining fleet during the closed season, but that is inevitable.

Remember though Bridgnorth shed/works does encourage volunteers to work alongside the paid staff wherever possible.

No slight intended towards Mr Bullied's product; modified or not. If my department wasn't delivering the goods I'd welocme an incident that distracts my superiors' attention.

Ah, I think I see where you are coming from now.

The picture isn't that bleak though, at least they should turn out two GW tankies, and that should please you!!

7802 later in the year depends on the combined efforts of the volunteers outstationed at TYS and the BH boiler shop, and 34027 once the new firebox is completed. The "bottom half" is reputedly almost done.

Got to be honest you really are a negative person sometimes!!!

As 46118 says plenty to look forward to over the next 12-18 months and I for one will wait till then before accusing any department of failing to deliver the goods. Ok it is true there has previously been some slippage in regard to overhaul output but the railway is working hard to remedy this and I think should be congratulated for taking the bull by the horns and trying to do something about it rather than bury their heads in the sand.

Quite right too, especially as he can't spell Bulleid correctly.
