What Ganger didn't put in his post is that all 3 need overhauling, now if they were runners the decision might be a little more difficult...........

I never saw any pics or heard any more about 5542 going out with the 'Victorian Set. Does anyone know if it happened and if so does anyone have any photographic evidence please?

    Cheers,

    John

I don't think it did I don't remember seeing it, but I could have missed it.

It did do a lot of Auto services, a local service, and a double headed trip on the main set that I can remember.

If you would like some photos have a look at my site and I can send you anything which may be relevant

I can confirm that 5542 did not take Victorian set on Friday the 10th. I filmed it near hood bridge on the goods instead.
I then went to Staverton and asked the chap doing the goods guard why the change?
He said the Vic set looked quiet manky, the Hall was in the way and they* had had a change of mind.

    * "they" could mean the train crew or even the management - I didn't probe any further.

If you want to watch some video......see below ;-)

Unfortunately the Victorian set didn't run. There are problems with the vacuum brakes on one of the vehicles and a few other smaller problems to resolve, so as the Operating Superintendent on the day I made the decision not to run the set. It remained stabled with the Hall on display in the shed (several visitors said they enjoyed looking around the shed) and rather than leave an empty path, the decision was made to run the goods instead. Hope that helps a little.

That explains why my friend was both suprised and yet pleased to see an extra goods train he did ask me about it in passing but I couldn't explain why!! Now I can! =D>

I see from photos that 6430 had 'GWR' on the tank sides.
Has it been repainted or were these temporary vinyls for the gala?

Actually it was 6435 from Bodmin at the Gala not 6430
They were temporary vinyls specially for the Gala. They were fitted about a week beforehand the same day as 5786 appeared in disquise too, and kept on whilst she masqueraded as 6412 on the special anniversary train.
    See Pic:

They were then taken of the next day I believe but were definately removed by the following Saturday (11th). For some reason I didn't get a picture of her on the Friday?
    Again see pic:

    Hope it helps

Don't worry they originally advertised as having two 5552's in service no mean feat i'm sure.
6430 did visit a while back was it last year or the year before? As she was there with 6412, for one of their event weekends, looked quite good having the two pass on autos at Bishops Bridge.
Hopefully we'll see the return of 6412 in the not too distant future.
