Discussion in 'Heritage Railways & Centres in the UK' started by Scorpian04111986, May 30, 2008.

Dick Wood has been a volunteer and supporter of the SDR since 1971 and is well known to many working volunteers as a fireman on the SDR footplate roster.

What's been running today? I thought it was supposed to be all-steam, but I've seen reports of the 37 doing a trip.

Normal two-train service, but half price fares. Crimson & Cream rake with 5526, chocolate and cream rake with 3803. The last train of the two-train timetable is always rostered for a diesel and this weekend it is D6737.

    Same roster again today.

Help needed at Riverford Bridge (Hood Bridge) for relaying starting on Monday 10th November 2008. Meet at Staverton station. Contact Andy Matthews [REMOVED] Why not give it a try. Its not all hard work. First job is tipping out rails. Many hands make it easy!

On the note of pictures heres a picture of Hood bridge area showing tree clearance in conjunction with the relay! This was taken last month so ballast is in now and further trees removed. Should make this an ideal photo location for the big 40th gala in spring! http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=4 ... =564740600

Nice picture. The SDR permanent way gang have been busy here for the last couple of weeks. This is one of the most visible parts of the branch. On day one of the works the staff/volunteers were standing ankle deep in water while tipping out rails.

    No mean feat then.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know when the remodelling of buckfastleigh is going to take place? I guess it is planned for after the 2009 season, and are the new plans to include the turntable?

Yes as far as I know (but don't take as gospel) the plans are all drawn up including the curvature of the track etc and they are just awaiting approval. It also includes a turntable

Coincidently the Paignton plans seem to be progressing too

The plans are approved and planning consent granted. All it needs now is the Transport & Works Order which should be through sometime next year and a rather large Lottery grant which is being worked on!

Planning consent? T&WO? large lottery grant? Have I missed something along the way? i've just gone back through all the posts and I'm still none the wiser.

Did you miss the fact that tHey are planning a complete remodelling of Buckfastleigh to include sepcific workshops for each department, and a new turntable (From Hull).

It also includes a remodelling of the miniature railway round the otherside of the site.

No I didn't miss that but why does this require a T&WO?
