A number of genuine Southern Railway benches are available to a good home.

In recent weeks, I have been co-ordinating an effort on the West Somerset Railway to provide our stations with good quality reproduction GWR bench seats.

This is releasing a number of genuine Southern Railway seats which have been on the WSR for many years. In the early years of the West Somerset Railway, batches of ex-SR Benches were obtained from store at Barnstaple (stored there following the closure of the Ilfracombe line) and later from Chatham. An example is shown below.

It would be nice to see these move on to Southern Railway based heritage projects, but requests from private individuals will be considered. A donation of £275 per bench would be expected.

If you are interested, you can message me here, e-mail me on robin215white@btinternet.com or call me on 07710 336 807

    kind regards

They have been in use on GWR stations and so are presently in GWR colours.

Their new owners may choose to get a paintbrush out.....:)

Before disposing of these seats IMHO it would be advisable to check if, underneath the paint, there is is a station name in enamel. The "right" plate of this kind can get an absurdly large sum.

None of them have enamel plates.

    But thanks.
