    It's Best by Bus!

.... and I think that's the top of my head (immediately above the '25' on the destination blind) - sharing the somewhat breezy delights of the top deck with Mrs TBF - and about to set out on an expedition aboard our mobile fotting platform along the prom, to seek out the last of the proper trams.

Even at 11mpg, Portsmouth No 6 beats stepladders hands down every time!!!

11MPG for such a vehicle would not bother me but does it have power steering air brakes are the questions I would ask. I have spent too many hours behind the wheel of old vehicles lacking these features to want to experience that any more!

If TBF struggles without these essentials he has my admiration.

11mpg - its a PD2 - in your dreams - as for nancy boy items like power steering, air brakes, cab heaters - whaaa???

    p.s.

As to corporations as there are one or two on here in the same medical situation as me, I shall make no further response to some of the comments -

except to say that once one reaches a a certain age : as long as one's appearance strikes terror into the hearts of one's enemies - then all's well!

Margaret Thatcher sold it to DAF - just as it was coming right after the dark days of Red Robbo.

Peterbilt got Foden and then in turn Daf - So Leyland is now a suburb of Nantwich

MAN got ERF and closed them down

    Iveco got Seddon Atkinson

    Then there was

Also interesting to note that recent bus chassis are marked VDL - presumably Volvo Daf Leyland now merged into one company ?

And the best of the lot...............AEC, (although it was wise to carry a spare set of injector pipes  )
It's my opinion that when Leyland took the company over they ruined it.

First new motor I ever got, 1962, AEC Marshal, a damn fine machine. :thumb:

Leyland ruined most things.............I remember the days when manufacturers used to send their new cars to their rivals for assessment...........when Leyland sent the Morris Marina to Ford they fell about laughing.......

Facinating though this thread is, it has probably out-grown the "What's going on" forum now... ;-)

So if Frank isn't "going on", what is he doing?
Or do we just put him in "Everything else heritage"?

Ah, Bristol! I'm steadily acquiring quite a few driving hours behind the wheel on several of these for a Weston-super-Mare operator. No cab heat (except from the exhaust manifold 6 inches from my left leg), no power steering and no synchromesh either! Not for the faint-hearted. A bit like driving a Bulleid Pacific with the steam reverser disconnected, if such a thing were possible.

Have just noticed that one of the few people that is prepared to say exactly what he thinks on this forum has now had his "Account Suspended".

As, historically, frequently occurs here, although I sincerely doubt that we will ever learn the truth behind such a drastic action being taken, would I be correct in assuming that this might just have something to do with one particular 'moderator', who, it is commonly known, has a particular 'bee in his bonnet' about those who 'dare' to cross his bows - or to challenge his views?
    :banplease:

Come back soon, Frank, we miss your exceptionally entertaining - if often controversial - points of view!!

I have to agree with you 100% there my friend.

It appears that Moderators John and Ralph have been upset by him once too often and ------ well we all know the rest though I have to say that it comes over is an abuse of power though I stand to be corrected on this.

    Have a nice day everyone.
