The Rhaetian Railway snow blower only operates a couple of times per year for "public operations". Most snow clearance is done by modern equipment, but XROT 9213 is still available for use. Normally the demonstration runs are fully booked some months before the weekends of operation, so it is unusual for it to be advertised by a tour company. If nothing else, the you tube clip is worth watching.
( If booked through Swiss Travel Centre, it is possible to extend the holiday and/or take "hold luggage" - at extra cost of course.)

    Cheers, Neil

"Snow and steam in the Swiss Alps with the 'Bernina Monster'

    Friday 16th February - Monday 19th February 2018

We are pleased to present you with an opportunity for a wonderful Alpine getaway, replete with a marvel of a machine. Experience Rhaetian Railway's awe-inspiring steam-powered snow blower on the high altitude Bernina line. The sheer might and power of Xrot 9213 will literally blow you away. Built in 1910, this behemoth requires up to 10 men to successfully operate, clearing snow on the high-altitude Bernina Line, a listed UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the few railways to cross the Alps without making use of a tunnel. See the spectacle for yourself on a short break to Switzerland.
