It was fine when it was based on the MHR as MHR volunteers would keep it in good condition. It was when it was moved away from the MHR that things went downhill with the Green stock. Also those involved with Daylight Railtours said that by the time they ceased operations the stock was going to need a lot of restoration work which it never got after the MHR had sold it.

East Grinstead - Most service trains use platform 2 ( Platform 1 mainly used during peak times) nearest the station building , so a charter could be held in platform 1.

The East Grinstead line is due to get 2 Thames Link services an hour once the rebuild of London Bridge is complete ( also dependant if the rolling stock has been built!).There be a total of 4 services an hour to East Grinstead plus the addition of Uckfield services north of Hurst Green Junction. With speed restrictions over or under 6 bridges it might not be possible to find a path for a charter Monday - Saturday.

I see there were three SRPS coaches at least in the consist of the '15 guinea special'. I can't say I've noticed WCR using their stock before.

Ipswich to Canterbury on 12th Sept has just been cancelled due to crewing difficulties. Of five bookings this year, this is my 4th cancellation.:( Oh well there is always next year.......

    THE CATHEDRALS EXPRESS. 5th September.
Diesel traction now from Guildford rather than steam. DBS crewing problems perhaps?

Marcus Robertson mentioned the change on the Exeter trip on 30th June (rather frustratingly AFTER those of us booked on the original scheduled run in April had been given the option to transfer to this or another run). Reason given for the change is that it would have taken too long to get steam through Surrey and London on the stop start schedule so steam now comes on in London. Looking at the provisional times it is still going to be a long day even with the change over. I was hoping for some high speed action as 4464's special ticket for 90mph running has been extended to the end of September................;)

But will 4464 be used, I think that I have read that it won't be used until the high speed runs are completed?

If you look in another thread it seems the options to run them at all are getting fewer and fewer for various reasons.

They can't even get some of the trips this year to run. I hope they can get better service from DBS next year. I see the price for premium standard has gone up yet again for next year: £115 for the longer trips. I am really starting to go off their trips I'm afraid.

Aah, but you still get your crisp, white tablecloths and you will be served complimentary tea and coffee at your seat throughout the journey.....

What more can you ask for?

Maybe a tour which actually runs?I have given up with Steam Dreams now, preferring to book with the tour companies who do what they advertise and preferably also with those who don't use DBS

Also SD prices have become impossible. Why should I pay well over £100 for yet another trip behind Yawnado when for £30 less I can have hours of wonderful thrash behind 5043, 70013 or 45699?
Are SD actually interested in the enthusiast market anymore?

    Don

Aah, Tea and coffee when the boiler works! We went on a couple of trips last year in succession where the boiler on the buffet/kitchen car had packed up before we even boarded. On one trip the boiler in the support coach for 70000 was providing the hot water for the free drinks in Premium Standard. A guy sitting with us understandably got rather irate as he didn't bring any drinks with him due to free drinks being promised on the train. He was gasping for a brew but whenever he asked what was going on he never got a straight answer until we were nearly at the destination. And that's when he could find a steward. Later in the same trip though there were plenty who were very keen to come round with their new brochures.
Makes you wonder where all the extra money (from raised ticket prices) is going to when you see the state of some of the stock. On another trip when it rained the water was p*ssing in to the carriage in the corridor section from a hole in the roof. SD used to be very good. Unfortunately these days they promise so much and rarely deliver. Sorry, rant over.
