Don't know. Sadly, 61306 has been a little unreliable lately so keeping the diesel on may have been intended for some time. I think some class 5s have been allowed out lone but others along the SWML have had 'insurance'. Let's just hope for a little lateness to spice things up!

Hope it all works out I seem to remember photographing a Duchess at Egham on the Cuneo Centennial 28/04/07 that was heading west and the steam leg had to be cut short at Salisbury which Six Bells Junction says was due to gauging problems at a bridge near Sherborne. Hope all resolved by now.

Oborne Road bridge is so tight that at one time even the service trains had to take a deep breath to get under.

44871 managed the same Victoria to Yeovil Jn. run on 11th Dec last year. On that occasion she was hauling 10 coaches. I recall seeing her at Stowell on the outward leg. Very noisy. <BJ>

I was on that trip. To say the passengers were cheesed off by the last minute gauging problem near Sherborne is a bit of an understatement. Still, it was a very good day out with the Duchess even though the Steam section was shortened. Class 57 haulage on the other sections IIRC.

Mmm, I saw that at Bath. 44871 was just coasting. The diesel was situated behind the tender and was pushing like mad. Not good.

A train that I was impressed with was on 12th December, just a day after the Yeovil tour, when 44871 hauled a charter from London Victoria to Worcester via Oxford.
In the evening the train returned to the capital via Kemble. It was so cold that the platform surface at Kemble resembled a skating rink.

The lengths we go to for our beloved hobby. <BJ>

The colder the better for steam photography - it produces more visible exhaust.

However having a vestibule window open soon starts to reduce the temperature in adjacent coaches, not something that the passengers appreciate.
There was a passenger on last Saturdays FS from Liverpool, repeatedly took photos from the vestibule then going back to his seat leaving the window open, even after being asked politely to close it by different stewards.

Very poor - doesn't help the cause at all. I imagine there's often a tension between enthusiasts and other passengers on these tours.

The good news is that 5Z92 (ECS from Southall), 1Z92 (the charter) and 0Z92 (L/E to Acton) were all activated at 06:26 this morning. However, RTT doesn't show any movement yet for the ECS: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/U54829/2019-12-17/detailed
Has anyone spotted 6233 in steam?

EDIT: posted just too soon. RTT shows the ECS leaving Southall WCRC 30L. There's quite a lot of slack in the schedule so a fair chance of on-time departure from Vict :)

Still at Victoria - 13L. A little late running and therefore effort might be to come. Edit - off Victoria 14L.

Something very wrong with 6233 - walking pace to and through Brookwood then carefully opened up but slipping a lot. Green signals throughout, no TSR and quite late. Not looking good. Followed immediately by an RHTT! I don't think the rails were bad anyway after heavy rain and all the leaves gone.

Something very wrong with your assumption - there is a 10 mph restriction for 6233 through Brookwood Down platform.

Phew! Wish I'd known - no wonder there weren't many there! Glad all is well but surprised the light load troubled 6233 at all when opened up.

There's always an armchair warrior who thinks they know better than those actually working the job though.

Harsh - I never claimed to have the facts, only what I saw on site. Glad; a) to have been put right, and b) all is well (although 20 late). Nor was I rude, aggressive or critical. BTW - is the 10mph restriction for all locos?

That's the correct SR for the Duchess.....and at BAS. And 35 on the main at Hook.
Combine that with a cautious approach to everything it seems and this is the non stop run WOK to SAL from hell. But its steam with no diesel.
