Anyone got full Photoshop? What would No7 have looked like if they'd sponsored the engine??

Not forgetting the dreaded ETHELs, situated next to the tender. It may not have been the best year for mainline steam but regarding the stock and ETHELs, it certainly hasn't been the worst. <BJ>

It won't be fun for the support crewe today servicing the Duchess, it's absolutely tipping down here in Plymouth at the moment. Feel sorry for the passengers as well (and those on a diesel tour to Penzance that went down earlier) as the heavy rain is covering Devon and Cornwall.

It started to rain as the Duchess departed from Bristol.

There's a better weather forecast for tomorrow with Tornado and the Torbay Express. <BJ>

Just watched a clip from Whiteball. Ludicrous shoveage from 47580. Why do they bother with the show pony steam?

Steam Dreams never fails to frustrate me as The Duchess roars up Whiteball with full power assistance from 47580. :Banghead:

The 47 going like a dream :( ! Somewhat understandable if you've got a class 5 or 6 on the front, but not the Duchess FFS !

One could guess it was because she was 12 late leaving Taunton and there was the 12.00 ex Taunton that they were trying to keep ahead of all the way to Newton Abbott, which they did, just. Would you like to pay the delay minutes involved if there were no diesel assistance?

One could also guess there is no point in booking on any trip organised by Steam Dreams......unless you like being pushed by a diesel.

Well the fact that it was booked to sit in Tiverton Loop for eight minutes to let the PAD - PNZ service passed when in fact it went straight down to Exeter arriving five early, where it waited time, doesn't exactly support that argument. The PNZ service was horrendously late. Did nobody think to ask Control? They could have had a decent climb of Whiteball and a normal run down the other side in 37 minutes and still be on time. Taunton to Exeter in a minute or so outside of even time does rather suggest that someone was under instructions or nobody bothered to check. Anyway, I wasn't on it. Even I have worked out that in some circumstances the steam charter world is now different. Trouble is that the punters haven't yet been told.

Why would the charter train have to pay for the delay minutes? The Duchess was slowed shortly before Taunton (Cogload Jct. 4 late, Taunton arr 8 mins late). The train took 10 mins to cover the final 4 miles. To make matters worse the Leeds to Plymouth XC service departed 15 mins late and so naturally the steam had to follow. No problems with the charter and so no penalties. <BJ>
