    Can you fill in some details please k.o.t.b.e.? I am aware of "Eisenbahnromantik" on German TV (regional channels) but £250 seems a lot to see just this one monthly show, so what other series do you get and on what channels?
    And what exactly should we invest our money in? Is it an extra dish (or dual receiver) to get Astra 1 at 19.2 deg. E?

    re-german railway programmes,i was just quoting approx.cost.my amounts broke down as follows: 1technomate free to air{fta} satelliite receiver,which was their top of the range then cost £99,s/h dish,can't remember exact size,but the size Sky use to use is ok for reception in southern england from astra 19.? satellite.and charge for installing for me including top grade cabel £80.total £209 for years of free pleasure!technomate now a range of receivers in all price ranges.now then 'Eisenbahn Romantik' is broadcast every SUNDAY AFTERNOON not monthly,weekly on BW then repeated on other channels during the week.one channel,MDR they did do a smashing railway program called MDR BAHNZEIT,unfortunately it came to an end at christmas,bringing great protests.also if your not already brainwashed into thinking Spain is the only european country,and you like learning about what other european countries are really like germany,switzerland,austria,italy etc., you'll see some beautifully photographed programmes,as i saw myself on german tv of our recent snow experiences,far better pictures than i saw broadcast here!lots of damn good stuff all for free!as i said previously i've recorded o to vhs tapes stuff almost as good as you would pay £20 in the shops

    Thanks knight... . For anyone who doesn't know Eisenbahn-Romantik, here's a Wikipedia list of the channels you could see it on. On channel search lists they sometimes add a "3"to the channel name. See next line for explanation.

    "The regional members of ARD all, jointly or separately, operate their own regional channels, known collectively as die Dritten ("the Third Programmes"). These are:

    * Bayerisches Fernsehen from Bayerischer Rundfunk
    * HR-fernsehen from Hessischer Rundfunk
    * MDR Fernsehen from Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk
    * NDR Fernsehen from Norddeutscher Rundfunk
    * rb.tv from Radio Bremen - in collaboration with NDR Fernsehen
    * RBB Fernsehen from Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg
    * SWR Fernsehen from Südwestrundfunk - in collaboration with SR Fernsehen (Note: SWR-BW and SWR-RP run separate studios. -BW was the traditional home of Eisenbahn-Romantik)
    * SR Fernsehen from Saarländischer Rundfunk - in collaboration with SWR Fernsehen
    * WDR Fernsehen from Westdeutscher Rundfunk."

    So if you have a steerable dish or already get Astra 1, have a look. (BBC provider Freesat uses Astra 2D at 28 degE, so not the same at all)

    E-R has been hugely influenced by a railfan club from Ulm, unsurprisingly called the Ulmer Eisenbahnfreunde. Members get offers to go on a couple of long-distance railtours a year, which are filmed and edited for the show. One I remember watching was Pacific steam haulage though the Czech and Slovak mountains. Very nice!
