Re 45337, The plan always was to stop the loco in January for winter fettling, this years main job was a full V & P exam, which after stripping down the front end and carrying out a full inspection the decision was made to replace the valve liners.

By late January we knew it was not possible to do the work in time for the gala so we informed the relevant parties so alternative arrangements could be made.

While we are sorry to miss SSS the loco will be back in traffic and available for Llangollen's normal operating season.

It would be nice if by some stroke of extraordinary luck 337 ended up being available and we could have 2 fives!

Actually, quite a lot of them are from the last couple of years, including some good ones from the Croes Newydd Gala.

Seen it now, not a bad article. Shame there isn't any of the new section. Been plenty of trains up there, as well as a gala event using it. Mentions locos facing East (or lack of), but must have been written before it was announced that 3205 will face east.

I called in yesterday for an hour or so. 64 has been re wheeled this last week, so attention will be turned to motion and brake components now i'd have thought.

Also, 7754's boiler has been temporarily re united with it's frames. Llangollen Railway Trust has opened an appeal for donations to complete the loco. Seeing it as it is now will hopefully encourage a few people to stick their hand in their pockets and get the old girl running again?

Slight update - Footplate crews have now had their roster and working timetable to study. I get 3205, 4270, 45231, 3802 and Wells twice. Not long to go now.

I'll be awaiting my timetable as a member of the film crew. I got one for the last 2. It's getting exciting now! When will the programmes be available. I got a program sent to me for free without asking for the last 2 SSS galas but I like buying one.

Do the timetables in the programmes include locomotive allocations?

They did for SSS3, so I'd imagine they will for SSS4.

    Can't wait.

Have bought tickets/brochure and local accommodation for the 1st weekend. Looking forward to this a lot :) I have posted in the Llangollen photographic guide thread asking if there is any updated info, as the last entry was in 2013. Any help is appreciated :)

I've just been nosey-ing at the MHR Feb Gala and the 9F (92212) was not available to run due to the problem with super heater elements.

I assume it must now be very doubtful for SSS4 as well. Bit of a shame as it's a cop loco for me, although I'll still come over for a day or two.

Any chance of a last minute resurrection or substitute?

It is with great regret that BR Standard Class 9F No. 92212 will not be running during the gala. Unfortunately, several super heating elements blew before Christmas and despite our best efforts, not all of the parts have been replaced in time.

That's the statement on the Mid Hants website with regard to their gala this weekend just gone, so with 3 weeks to go to ours? You never know. I'm sure the organisers will know the situation by now, and either be confident that it will come, or be in negotiations for an alternative.

All i could guess is to assume it's coming until told otherwise by 6880 group.

Thanks for that, I'm keeping my fingers crossed but not holding my breath if that makes sense....

I guess it might be possible to draft in 92214 from the GCR as a direct replacement, running in green maybe she could masquerade as Evening Star?

A brief mention in this weeks Loco Wednesday Gang's blog, "I had a quick look in the boiler shop, where the main priority is 92212’s superheater tubes". Hopefully this will mean it is ready in time, as only a fortnight left!
