I'm not bothered about it at all. I made the comment in jest, really, because it nullifies my previous comment and a comment by 49010 saying the gala was shaping up to be quite S&Dish.

Officially announced on Facebook about Wells now. Someone asked if it was for an S&Djr theme but the answer was not intentionally. But should make for a good themed day or charters! Hmm if only Butterleys 7F was ready in time!

Ah well, not as if an S&D themed gala hasn't been done before!

I work there, and live close enough to the place. I was just a bit too young to see it as the site rules for visitors was over 14 at the time. It did run, as it came off the road outside the scrap bay. It came off at Llan as well, which was why it had the full set of springs changed. Original BR ones were fitted. Never seen many picture, but I know a couple of people that will have some.

Last time we had one at Llan was 1994, so probably due again for us!

I remember seeing a 4F (44422) piloting Taw Valley on the Pines coming non-stop through Berwyn.

to end all of this S&D malarchy.. how about B12 8572 from Sheringham ? doesn't seem too widely traveled but is a bit of a nice to have. Will 69621 still be a runner by SSS4 ?

Oh! That's a good shout! It would be nice to have one of each of the big 4 visiting plus a standard. GWR, standard and Southern are sorted out. 8572 would be a flippin' nice LNER engine to have and how about 13065 as the LMS one? As all previous SSS events have had 6 visitors and one of those has always been something small, how about really pushing the boat out and having 30053?

8572, a product of Gorton like your truly, would suit me too. It guested at the GWSR gala in May 2013 and was the star of the show for me. Isn't it the only remaining inside cylinder 4-6-0 in Britain?

Heritage Rail does say they plan on running autotrains, but I can't see 6430 or one of the 4575s being ready so we might be able to guess what one of the remaining guest locos could be...

The North Norfolk Spring Gala is usually the early March, so if it clashes with SSS4 unlikely.

    5542 also auto-fitted, so a few choices.

Staff on the 6880 stall at Ropley last weekend said 1450 was one of the guests booked for the event.

If that is so, then I shall be phoning a friend who lives nearby in hope of accommodation. I am an unashamed 14xx groupie!

Surely a newly built engine is real, and not false - it exists!

would be brave to run another gala in competition with SSS4.... SSS has a formidable reputation in the diary.
It's kind of the Rainhill trials of the preservation era. (even if next year there's no parade).
