I heard from several staff members on the last day that the event had become profitable sometime on the day before. I don't think that that included gift aid. Considering the weather and the current economic climate, ending up making a profit is a good start. Whether it will be enough of a profit to get the cylinders cast is another question.

I'm presuming you mean you've never had a GW mogul because the last sentence contradicts the first!

Ok, I'll turn 'pedant mode' off now...

Glad the Gala was a financial success, although I personally did not feel moved to attend. Info on the SVR forum suggests that financially their March gala was very successful, so I hope that the trend continues and SSSIII achieves all it set out to do.

The event went into profit Saturday afternoon but this is excluding Gift Aid which will take a few months to be calculated and paid out so we wont know a final figure till the end of year. It helped significantly that advanced ticket sales were 50% higher than SSS2, and that event wasn't exactly unpopular!

And a small Prairie, 9017, a second Manor and 46521...

See what is decided, but at the moment no commitment has been made to a SSSIV event yet. We'll let you know when we do.

With the exception of the Dukedog, which is out of traffic. There is the possibility of 1 of the other 3 being a potential visitor to our Autumn Gala from 31st August to 2nd September.

Wish I could have made it looks like it was an amazing event! That said I'm working as a guide on the Dee on Saturday so will pop in over the weekend! 828- what a stunning looking machine!

I guess the Manor in question would be 7828 then? Can't see 7812 being allowed out, and 7827 doesn't seem to do much travelling. An interesting proposition nonetheless!

7828 is stated as not going anywhere else for it first two years by it WSR owners.

On the dates in question all 3 are likely to be busy but certainly 7812 is more likley to be available in late or early season & the owning group favour a limited number of visits to relevant lines elsewhere if the circumstances are right.

Perhaps the hint was re 46521?

The SVR sort of owe us a visit of 7812 don't they, after it's non appearance at the spring gala last year.

If you want 7812, ask for it and I am sure if it can be spared then it will be. I don't think it's a case of 'owing'.

It's good to know that the event made a profit but if it only went into profit on the Second Saturday thats a bit close to call!

Whichever one is available to hire in. But with 7828 now out of the window, it would nice to bring in another Manor loco to pair with 7822.

If all else fails, then it could be a phone call to GCR about hiring the Ivatt 2 in?

Yes and if I recall May to early September 1991, and facing West too as expected. For a number of reasons, no photo charters were organised with the loco. Interestingly No 7822 "Foxcote Manor" was facing East around that time. Talking of "Manors", No 7828 "Odney Manor" was a resident (in the lighter green BR livery) at the railway in 1989/90 and had double headed with "Foxcote" on a number of occasions, No 7828 was also the first steam locomotive through Berwyn Tunnel and to Deeside Halt in January 1990. Probably ideal Manor would be No 7812 to bring into the railway?

Surely if the gap between SSS3 & a possible SSS4 is anything like that between SSS2 & SSS3, then i'd say there's a good chance 7820 could be back in traffic by that time.

Going off topic slightly, but 5322 is looking rather tasty at the moment....
