. . and there I was thinking Southerman was referring to 5199 !!!

Didn't realise he was talking about our twelfth man !

You be right there about 5199

Came into traffic at Llangollen in March 2003

Stopped for new tyres September 2007 out on the hire to the Bluebell April 2008 until January 2009

Has also appeared at Crewe twice, GWRS, WSR, SVR, GCR, VofGR, and Barrow Hill

Looking forward to a long stay at the Churnet Valley in 2009 after this Gala of course

She is a busy loco earning her keep

Sorry, I completely got the wrong end of the stick with your initial question.

It was just all the talk about 5199's livery that made me think you were still referring to 5199 and not the 12th Gala loco. I easily get confused!!

It was following completion of 5199 in 2003, that many of the 5199 team concentrated their efforts into the 6880 Betton Grange project.

    LOCAL ACCOMODATION

If you are wishing to stay locally I will tell you to get booking NOW !

Already 3 B&Bs have comfirmed they are fully booked for the entire week.

All others have said they have received bookings and a further 2/3 only have the odd room left.

It is all very encouraging from our point of view, but book now if you want to be within the immediate area.

To endorse this, applications for the 9 day advance ticket are popular. They make an ideal Xmas present.

Can any advice be made on a local Network Rail station? Just after the Great Briton tour, I may head down to South Wales, but come up to Llangollen for Saturday of the gala before heading home on the Sunday, all travelling by train of course!

Ruabon is the closest station and I'm pretty sure there's a bus to Llangollen from there. Don't know the numbers / times though. I vaguely remember that some events have run a vintage bus service between the two.

Ruabon Station is the nearest network station. It is just over 5 miles away from Llangollen.

A frequent free bus service between Ruabon and Llangollen Station will be operated during the busiest days of SSSII/

If coming midweek I believe the public bus service is a half hourly service between the stations.

    Hope this helps.

A lot of details were within our 2007 Gala website: http://www.6880gala.co.uk/2007/location.shtml

Unless the bus service's has changed, there is a bus every quarter of an hour to Llangollen town. These services are X5 or 555(?). There is also the X94 arriva bus to Barmouth every 2 hours or so (?).

So you shouldn't really be hanging around for hours waiting for bus connections.

I've now decided which days I'll be attending. 1st day, Thursday & the last day. I'll ordered my tickets later on this month.

It's certainly looking to be a good event! Was watching the DVD of SSS1 last year and have forgotting how good it was.

We will be running vintage buses from 9am till 6pm on both saturdays to/from Ruabon, and again on sunday. Also on friday 24th we will provide a vintage bus service aswell.

Midweek you will have to use the service linked above.

Train services on the mainline are better than last year, in that Wrexham & Shropshire provide an extra 5 trains per day in addition to Arrivas service. So hopefully this will encourage a few more people to attend.

Glad to see the service has improved, it was never that bad but sadly quite infreqeuent! 5 extra trains will make a good difference!

Also, the Arriva X5 bus service runs from Wrexham bus station through to Llangollen and isnt a bad route. If travelling to Wrexham from Bidston and Merseyrail and if haveing missed a connection to Ruabon, the bus is an alternative. It can also be caught at the roundabout near to Wrexham Central.

Would definetly recommend getting a bus from Wrexham rather than Ruabon. There is a large bus station in the centre of the town, and all the times are clearly displayed.

Be carefull at Ruabon. Some buses dont go onto the station concourse. There is another bus stop on the main road.
