Yeah, but its not. It may seem "normal" but this is far from what a normal ASG should be.

No breakfast trains, no local trains, the use of the goods is almost pityful only going between Kidder and Bewdley.

I must admit I am a bit disappointed at the pricing. The day tickets used to be valid until the last train before midnight, now it’s only until 8.30pm.

Also, you used to be able to buy 2/3/4 day tickets which included the overnight services but now that is charged separately on top. Okay, you do get a discount if you have a day ticket but it’s still a significant increase on top of the day ticket which has also increased slightly, but offers less value due to the shortened validity.

I suspect they are not expecting as many to turn up as usual this year and so are deliberately keeping it simple. It will be interesting to see how many do actually come - there are obviously some who have concerns about attending due to Covid while having only 2 visiting locos, neither of which is particularly unusual (6233 has been at least 3 times that I can remember in recent years while 9466 has been around the gala circuit a lot, although I don't remember seeing it at the SVR) may keep the numbers down. I could be wrong and it could be absolutely rammed - we'll see. Looking forward to it anyway.

Thanks - my first Severn Valley ASG was 2006 which is why I don't remember it being there.

Good year to go that with the Super D. IIRC the other visitors were 6201 & 6233.

This will be 6233's 6th visit altogether.

    2001 2002 2006 2013 2018

    And 9466s 4th

    1997, 2001 and 2005

9466 is my bigger draw of the two IMHO

Oh yes I’d forgotten about 2001 for 9466.

IIRC during its last visit there was a bit of a disagreement over who should drive it which is why it hasn’t visited since, I guess that is no longer an issue after the change in ownership.

I usually buy rover tickets for 3 days. Can anyone remember the combined price of this from the last gala? It was around £75 ish. When I put 3 day and 2 nights into the SVR website the total was £137. That's a bit of a jump.
If the same arrangements as the SSG were still in place I would have booked for at least one day, had I not broken my leg.
This will be the first ASG I will miss since the ASG with the first overnight trains (1997?). £137 is honestly a bit too much. Not having a guaranteed seat in a Covid safe environment also is too much of a risk. Sorry.

It was 28 years ago that the first overnight trains ran in 1993 so longer than you remember.

According to the Tuesday 14th entry for notes on SVRLive. - 6233 to arrive and to be facing south (chimney towards Kidderminster) as per its appearances in 2013 and 2018

From SVR Facebook page just now.

Owing to issues outside of the SVR's control, 6233 Duchess of Sutherland will no longer be visiting the Autumn Steam Gala 16-19 September.

However, we've managed to draft in another exciting guest in its place! 4953 Pitchford Hall will be joining us from Epping Ongar Railway and running in this impressive black livery ⚫⚫ Tix: https://bit.ly/SVRAutumnSteam21

6233 no longer attending, 4953 is the replacement.

Personally I think 4953 visiting instead of 6233 is an improvement.
