    One thing notable this year was that the majority of full line trains were hauled by visiting locos, whereas in previous years there has been a better split, as some visitors have gone onto the shuttles. This probably had an impact on numbers per train.

    I wonder, has thought been given to operating a DMU drag as one of the rakes? If this were to be used for one of the local rakes, then the other could theoretically be extended to a full rake of 7/8, assuming siding space allows? It might not please the absolute purists, but I'd say it's no less authentic (indeed probably more so) than (say) 2857 running on 4 teaks! Not an instant cure to overcrowding, no, but one small step.

    It's actually probably more authentic to be honest, didn't steam locomotives often haul failed DMU sets?
