Wheeldrop .... SVR ....... shame she can't be repaired there

the loss of the opportunity to see her stretch her legs at full height and with appropriate stock may be a little too much for any of us to take

If its a relatively minor problem as Didcot intimate, pity they couldn't send it straight to the SVR where they could use the wheel drop. I'm sure the SVR would help out and it would save a road journey.

That might seem sensible except that it would mean 6023 missing the GWS 50th Anniversary Gala over the previous two weekends - whilst it can clearly only be on static display, its not a realistic option to send it on directly. Its also a question of ensuring the repairs are properly overseen etc with 6023 going mainline - SVR may be hard to access for those who need to be there during the repairs. (which is not to imply that the SVR is incapable of the repairs)

There's a double chimney castle not too far away that would make a worthy (and equally noisey) replacement, but alas I think i can continue dreaming on that one!

I have very bad luck with Kings and the SVR. 6024 Pulled out of the 2008 Gala the last time i was over, and 6023 is out this time (which is a huge disappointment as i was sooo looking forward to seeing her and was a big reason i decided to come over this year!!).

Oh well, since that trend continues, maybe we'll get the same 3 days of gorgeous weather we got when the King stood me up in 2008 to make up for it!!!

The SVR are now stating the following on their official website: "Here at the SVR we are currently negotiating for a replacement locomotive which will have wide appeal for our visitors. An announcemeent will follow shortly."

Any thoughts on what it might be?

I now expect quite a long list of wants from various people.
Depends whether we think big or small, If big and GW, it can directly take 6023 turns. If not, a swap around and something unusual in the same line as 828 visiting.
Hopefully, it won't be too long as the WTT was expected to be finished shortly. Don't want any big delays with it.

Get 70000 in, a line up with 60163 would look great (especially as they are both with the Early Crest)

As there is an option to pre-book the ASG WTT, does anyone know if will there be an option to order a diesel gala WTT? I am coming to both events but have never done a SVR diesel gala before so don't know if WTTs are even made available for the public to buy. Any info would be much appreicated.

I remember speaking to you at the time near Bewdley tunnel. I appreciate that you didn't manage to photograph the King but
don't you recall the Earl of Berkeley / City of Truro combination? Superb locos, coaching stock and light. Happy days. <BJ>

Indeed!!! That was a superb combination, And i am looking forward to happily enjoying whatever is running and all the SVR has to offer. I won't let the need to make sure that the locomotives are properly cared for get me down!!! I can't control a 70 year plus old locomotive's need for care and maintenance, and there will be more chances to see her in the future!!

I say what about the T9 be different a smaller loco and bringing more diversity of locos 5322 would be a poor choice as it does not add variety to the event as someone who attended and enjoyed last years event and remembers the difference in loading of the trains like sardines on manston and on other trains seat to spare.

Or, how about, in keeping with the 'blue' theme, the WSR's SDJR 7F No:88, that would add a bit of variety, although she has visited the line previously in the not too distant past.
