Ta, it wasn't showing anything in the description to start with. A common problem with events listed on Facebook, at least on the app all the info doesn't always initially appear.

I appreciate that with the landslip the railway is needing a large injection of cash to fund repairs to it's infrastructure, but to me, £20 for a 10 minute footplate ride does seem a bit steep...

If you give the participant the full 10 minutes and allow a bit of time between participants (so they don't feel they are being crowded on / off the footplate) then you can do no more the 4 - 5 trips per hour.

£80 - £100 per hour to operate a steam locomotive is I would suggest a reasonable figure. It's certainly not a price that is going to see the railway bathing in champagne just on the proceeds.

    It's a donation!

20 years ago I once sold (very short) cab rides in a steam loco in Holland for a Euro.
Father and son bought two tickets.

Came back half an hour later:
'We want our money back, my son is frightened'

Can it legally be a donation if it is mandatory? Also subject to vat unless it's a fundraising event, which it looks like it is.

You can call it what you like, but if the amount is compulsory rather than “suggested”, you can’t claim Gift Aid on it (should it be going to a charity).

Believe they were charging £20 for footplate rides at Bewdley last summer, seemed very popular.

Was it 50p for Flying Scotsman in about 76 at Carnforth?
And a crammed full cab at that.

At the HRA awards last night, the SVR won Station of the Year for Eardington and Achievement of the Year for the NR partnership.

Presumably more like £50:00 today given inflation; if you think that's much look at platform ticket prices for FS visits at heritage lines !

£20 at the Swanage Community weekend to drive an 08 and that has only one space remaining over the two days. Seems good value for a steam loco.

I stand corrected - evidently elements of my judgement of value for money hasn't completely caught up with the last few years of price increases affecting heritage railways!

Around £65,000 raised so far towards the landslip, amazing effort! If you want to contribute a gentle reminder that it’s - https://svr.co.uk/resilience/

And 80 Footplate Rides around Bridgnorth sold to date too.
