Looking very likely now that the SVR is going to have to hire early in this year maybe a couple of locos at peak summer when hiring has been the norm. Could really do with a quick turnarounds for 1501 and 2857. 92203 is currently at Crewe for repairs, drop off at Kidderminster rather than Winchcombe?! Would certainly pull in a few enthusiasts, 92212 was very popular when it visited nearly a decade ago, I think was suprisingly economical & we haven't had a 9F on the line since.

I'm expect the owning groups of any of the locos currently on the GWSR (5542, 2807, 7903, 45160) wouldn't mind going to SVR for time before GWSR gets up and running. (please note: they might not(want to hire themselves out))

2807 would be nice - but what's the current return to traffic date for 2857?

At the last I heard, it was suppose to be back in time for Easter, but that was in December, and the SVR engineering hasn't been updated since November so no clue there. It does say on the engineering website hopefully back in early 2011. I think wait and see...

2857 - Churchward, Ex GWR… The loco was moved into the paint shop at Bridgnorth in late January where work on the assembly and painting of the loco has continued. Injectors and feed pipes are fitted, boiler cladding is now complete, including injector feed pipe covers, and safety valve bonnet. Inside the smoke box, the superheater header and regulator valve have been fitted and main steam pipes located in position. One part that had gone missing was a section of channel linking the spectacle plate to the fire box top cladding sheet and a new piece has been made. Pictures are here http://www.2857.org.uk/2857_news.html

4566 has apparently suffered a broken spring and 5164, having earlier been drained down for the winter, is reportedly due to run in her stead.

43106 is in for repairs to the cracked front cylinder end cover, piston head and rod. As at 16 February her rear wheel-set had been removed to attend to play between axlebox and horn guides, and she was standing as a 2-4-0 in the loco works

    All unofficial, from SVRA forum

34027 - Bulleid West Country, 'Taw Valley', Ex SR... The owner, Phil Swallow reports the rolling chassis is now partially re-wheeled, with the drivers due to go back in over the next two months. Optical alignment is completed, good progress is being made with lubricators and work is progressing on overhauling and machining the smaller components. A start has been made on the lubrication pipework and re-assembling the motion. The tender has been examined and there shouldn't be much work to do on that front. On the South Devon, work is about restart on the boiler after the move from Tavistock. A livery of BR lined black has been suggested. Per the SVRA unofficial forum.

Tornado (in BR green) and Joem now join 6023, 5029 and caley 828 for what looks like a brilliant autumn gala line up.

    All as publically reported

4566 available for service, and spare, following spring repairs

2857 - Churchward, Ex GWR… The March 2011 news update http://www.2857.org.uk/2857_news.html illustrates some of the work that has been carried out over the last 3 weeks. The cab looking much more complete with the majority of the pipework done, gauges, whistle chains, sanding gear, and ATC box fitted. The holes for the “porthole” windows have been blanked off in keeping with the livery period. The whistle bracket was originally fastened directly to the boiler, however the resulting hole in the cladding allowed water to run into the lagging. Therefore the arrangement has been modified by placing a rectangular plate over the hole and fastening the bracket to it.

46443 - Ivatt Class 2, LMS-design... remains on the East Lancs. Railway following its Enthusiasts’ Gala on 26/27 February.

82045 – Standard Class 3... 11 March saw the drilling and fitting of the final horn-tie. They still need to be removed once more to be spot-faced for the fixing nuts. The Trust is eagerly awaiting the delivery of the smokebox saddle which will be fitted along with the stretcher that carries the leading pony truck bearing. The placement of the contract for casting and machining the motion brackets is imminent. (SVRA forum).

7812 - Collett 'Erlestoke Manor', Ex GWR... is still travelling. Despite returning to steam from Barry condition as long ago as 1979 this is the first working visit for this loco away from the SVR apart from a brief spell of mainline running on BR in the early 1980's. She is/was rostered on the WSR 5, 6, 12 and 13 March and for the WSR Gala on 19, 20, 24, 25, 26, 27 March. She will move straight to The Llangollen Railway’s Spring Steam Gala from 8 to 10 April. The loco will return to the SVR in good time for Easter.

7802 - Collett 'Bradley Manor', Ex GWR… is now shown on the main SVR website as put of use following its failed boiler exam in February

    43106 - Ivatt Class 4, LMS-design... repairs continue

    5164 - Prairie Tank, Ex GWR… operational

42968 - Stanier Mogul, Ex LMS... operational

Not read steam railway for years, has it actually got a name from the SVR that has told them that is what is comming or is this Steam railway listening to rumours again?

Article mentions information coming from A1 trust. Also widely reported and confirmed on SVR website & forum. Steam railway has been far more accurate on it's information of late and has a great deal of news on the SVR these days, helped considerably by a former editor now being the press officer for the SVR!

Yes, the trouble is, when magazines or forums say that locos are definately coming when there is no such certainty, it does not help negotiations

Totally agree Olly, and also there is still a long time until the gala in which time locos may unfortunatly fail and therefore not be able to attend, lets hope this isnt the case though as the line up is looking rather splendid ;)

813 - Ex Port Talbot saddle tank… has vacated the LT jack area. SVR Engineering http://www.svr-engineering.co.uk/news/news.html

1306 'Mayflower' – ex-LNER B1 class... The driving wheels of this Battlefield Line based-engine have recently received attention on the wheel lathe at Bridgnorth. The tyres are nearing their limit for re-profiling, however there was one turning left on all the driving wheels, so these have been profiled accordingly. SVR Engineering

1501 - Pannier Tank, Ex GWR... Now 813 has vacated the LT jack area, 1501 has moved into place and has now had all the driving wheels, springs and axleboxes removed. Photographs on the SVR Engineering website show the driving wheels and main frames after they have been thoroughly cleaned with the steam cleaner. Work is now going to focus on the wear on the axleboxes and tyres. It is hoped that this may be a fairly quick job as the locomotive was re-tyred towards the end of her previous spell in traffic. The main benefit of the strip down is that it enables a thorough clean down and repaint of the main frames. All the coupling rods and connecting rods will also be re-metalled.

34027 - Bulleid West Country, 'Taw Valley', Ex SR... Her boiler is now at South Devon Railway following purchase of Pridham’s by the SDR. The first item on the agenda is to get made the press tooling to allow the production of the thermic syphons, which the owner is purchasing jointly with the Bulleid Society. The next item to tackle is the inner combustion/throat plate pressings which will then allow the all new inner firebox to be put inside the outer firebox which still requires a partial new door plate. Upon assembly of both fire boxes the task of fitting stays and final tubing will take place. Completion date for the boiler could be the end of this year. (Per the owner on SVRA forum thread http://forum.svra.org.uk/viewtopic.php?p=27549#27549)

7812 - Collett 'Erlestoke Manor', Ex GWR... is on the WSR for their Gala but according to other posts on this site suffered a leaking flue tube which requires replacing.

News from SVR online: Both 7812 and 46443 have returned to Bridgnorth in poorly states. 7812 has, as Patrick says, flue tube issues and 46443 has damage to a cylinder following a 'mishap' at the East Lancs. According to SVR forum some remedial repairs were carried out at Bury but there maybe further damage. The SVR fleet really is at the bare minimum required to run the now reconnected service. 7802 is now listed as stored awaiting overhaul, 43106 is awaiting a new piston rod and 2857 still requires work over the pit before it's ready for traffic.

Looking at the standard timetable that begins at the weekend it looks like the SVR needs 3 engines in steam, which at the moment is the entire fleet: 4566, 5164 and 42968.
