92212 will join the SVR fleet from early june until after the autumn steam gala it has been announced today.
This is aimed at ensuring that current working home fleet is reinforced through the peak summer months to improve loco availability for the advertised steam hauled services.

Re the ASG mentioned earlier: I still wonder about the economics of hiring in all those big names for just three days in the Autumn. One hopes that consideration was at least given to making the ASG a two-weekend proposition?
Anyway one resolution is NOT to travel to Kidderminster by car for the ASG! It will be "melt-down" in the SVR car-park!! Particularly if they dont bother to put up the "full" signs!! I've seen it before!!

Great and very welcome news this. A very sensible loco hire too, powerful but economical that will be popular with crews, enthusiasts and is an impressive looking beast for Joe public too. Now for the return of 2857!

That will be one hell of a day at the SVR when 92212 and 2857 are both running.

...double heading a fully loaded coal train out of Alveley sidings

Only slight snags to that are:

    a) Gordon u/s
    b) Alveley sidings long gone
    c) Doubt the SVR have enough coal trucks to justify a double headed coal train
    d) Doubt the SVR could afford the coal to put in enough trucks to justify a double headed coal train!
    e) Suspect civil engineers would get twitchy at the thought of those two double heading a fully loaded coal train over Victoria Bridge. Lol.

Catch Me Who Can... The website has an update at 3 June, © 2011 Copyright Trevithick 2000. Following the internal inspection, reassembly and steam testing, the boiler now has a clean bill of health, and a new inspection regime that means it will not need dismantling again for up to five years. The chimney extension is now complete, with a discreet and workmanlike beading round the rim. The riveting crew have eventually got the job under control. At their last session they fitted all forty-two rivets in the longitudinal seam, at last completing that part of the job. The charity still needs an entry gland for the exhaust pipe, bracing for the top of the chimney, and a damper in the bottom. She will steam for the Bridgnorth Station Festival on 11-12 June.

813 - Ex Port Talbot saddle tank… On 4 June volunteers continued painting up 813 wheels in an attempt to get them all into first topcoat by the end of the weekend. One wheel was an exception as it still had to go into second layer undercoat (Bridgnorth station blog)

1501 - Pannier Tank, GWR-design... On 4 June volunteers got working on cleaning and rubbing down the journals of 1501's wheelset and touching paintwork around the wheels with chassis black gloss (Bridgnorth station blog)

4150 - Large Prairie Tank, Ex GWR... Construction of the new bunker as progressed well over the recent months. The base/front/side structures are now situated on the loco, while the back of the bunker is still located on the frame of the old bunker. The other bunker side should be trial fitted next - so far everything lines up! The plate work for the back of the bunker, not too far now from completion, still requires some welding and a lot of drilling. Images are on the website http://www.4150.org.uk/news/4150_june11.html. © Copyright 2011 The 4150 Fund

4566 - Small Prairie Tank, Ex GWR... suffered valve problems and a broken spring on 30 April and remains out of traffic for valve replacement (SVR website). On 4 June a very enthusiastic but determined group of volunteers replaced the gaskets on both of 4566's injector steam valves: despite several problems including bolts refusing to go back in, the task was completed inside of quite impressive time constraints. (Bridgnorth station blog)

7812 - Collett 'Erlestoke Manor', Ex GWR... was out of service for washout and boiler exam the week commencing 4 June (SVR website)

42968 - Stanier Mogul, Ex LMS... Earlier in the year, 42968 unfortunately suffered problems with superheater elements. Although rectified as quickly as possible this ultimately resulted in a possible visit to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway being called off. While currently operational and in regular use on SVR services, an entire set of new elements has been ordered should they be required before expiry of the boiler certificate in 2012. The loco continues to run paired with the tender of 'Black Five' No. 45110. Meanwhile, the overhaul of 42968's own Fowler tender is progressing apace. The underside has now been shot blasted and painted completely up to top-coat. Work continues on the cleaning down and final painting of the outer frames. It is hoped that application of the top-coat could be completed within the next few weeks. The wheels are currently still at the South Devon Railway for retyring though expected to return to Bridgnorth imminently. This rapid progress has been achieved by a small working party that meets most weeks, normally on a Wednesday. The Stanier Mogul Fund would very much like to hear from any SMF or SVR member interested in joining these groups. Enquiries should be made via the Secretary. © Copyright 2011 Stanier Mogul Fund http://www.staniermogulfund.org.uk/

46443 - Ivatt Class 2, LMS-design... was out of service for tender bearings being renewed the week commencing 4 June (SVR website).

92212 – Standard Class 9F, Ex-BR... comes to us by courtesy of its owners and with the assistance of the Mid Hants Railway, and will be remaining with us until September. She arrived on 9 June and will run services from 15 June (SVR website).

I've done a search but can't find anything particularly recent; is there any news on the restoration of 6634?

The last I heard the platework around the cylinders has been 75% completed but nothing major has been completed as the boiler isn't being worked on at Crewe just yet.

2857 reported yesterday on SVR forum as sitting in Bridgnorth yard with a fire in it. Still missing valve covers so won't be moving far just yet.

2857 is nearly ready to enter traffic on the SVR. The locomotive has undergone its complete insurance steam test on Wednesday 22nd June 2011. Outstanding jobs still include valve setting, final weighing of the loco and of course a period of running in, light engine and then loaded test trains

Hopefully sometime we may see 2857 and 2807 together, who knows? That would make an impressive sight! Seeing video of 2807 and 3802 at Llangollen last year was most excellent!

4150 - Prairie Tank, Ex GWR... The July 2011 update http://www.4150.org.uk/news/4150_july11.html has a series of photos of trial fitting further new sections of the bunker, including the tool box shelf, RH cab side and new water tank baffles.

Do we know when 92212 will be available for traffic? I fancy a ride behind this beast and happen to be over Bridgnorth way at the weekend.

Sorry Alan, no. Keep an eye on the mainwebsite and they'll post up the roster.

813 - Ex Port Talbot saddle tank… 813’s frames, wheels and bunker are continuing to see progress by a small gang. The loco recently developed ‘silver cylinder syndrome’, before the paint was hidden away due to the intense pong! (The Bugle, SVRA website)

1501 - Pannier Tank, GWR-design... 2857’s place in the paintshop has been taken by the boiler and firebox cladding sheets from 1501, spread out on timber pallets for ease of access. 1501’s frames and wheels, on or near the lifting jacks, are mostly in top coat awaiting completion of mechanical work before reassembly. This follows an initial very thorough session with the steam cleaner. It too recently developed ‘silver cylinder syndrome’ (The Bugle, SVRA website)

34027 - Bulleid West Country, 'Taw Valley', Ex SR... TV’s tender has entered the shed for cleaning and painting mostly at the moment by the mid-week gang (The Bugle, SVRA website).

42968 - Stanier Mogul, Ex LMS... The unsung heroes’ award goes to the team who have cleaned and painted the underside of 42968’s tender. They took advantage of the body being parked on a wagon in the yard whilst the wheelsets are away being re-tyred (The Bugle, SVRA website).
