great news about 1501. I'm looking forward to seeing the progress first hand at the weekend. Can't wait to have it back, that thing is an absolute beast of a machine!

    Cheers,
    Andy.

Sadly not. Guess if enough of the home fleet are available it makes sense not to run it.

It'll be running off Bewdley on Christmas eve, as it does a loco swap with 4566 on one of the christmas lunch trains this week.

'Cylinders for 82045' raffle... Including donations the gross income was over £21,000. This should give a surplus of over £17,000 including gift aid reclaimed from the taxman. The order for the pattern and cylinder castings has now been placed and, all being well, they should be fitted to the loco by September (SVRA forum).

828 - Class 812, Ex-Caledonian Railway... SVR Twitter has an image of her having her wheels removed on 16 December Twitter.

Just to let everyone know, 42968 was failed on Christmas Eve when it returned to Bridgnorth with a broken spring on the centre driver. As a result it needs the wheelset dropped and spring replaced, to be done ASAP as far as I'm aware. 2857 will be taking over its diagrams (first train of Bridgnorth) for the foreseable.

    Cheers,
    Andy.

828 - Class 812, Ex-Caledonian Railway... this 1899-built John McIntosh ‘3P’ locomotive comes to us courtesy of Strathspey Railway and Scottish Locomotive Preservation Trust Fund. It is believed to be making its first working visit south of the border in preservation. See SVR Twitter for an image of her having her wheels removed on 16 December. Following retyring and repairs she will star in the SVR Spring gala 23-25 March.

4566 - Small Prairie Tank, Ex GWR... is having Christmas week off for washout, boiler exam and mechanical repairs (SVR website).

46443 - Ivatt Class 2, LMS-design... is to be brought from her current storage at Kidderminster Carriage Shed to The Engine House for display in the near future (SVRA forum)

80072 - Standard Class 4, Ex BR... This Llangollen Railway based locomotive arrived at the SVR on 16 November and has been providing additional assistance to the operating fleet until January (SVR Engineering). Her last rostered duties are 31 December and 1 and 2 January, and she will be left positioned at Kidderminster for collection by road (SVR website)

Catch me who can... Work continues on the boiler lagging. After fitting all the pieces, everything has been taken off again, and moved into the warm of the paint shop to dry out. Three days’ painting has taken place during December, and with more of the group able to contribute to this less technical work, the job is making very good progress. All the wood has been carefully cleaned with white spirit and has received one undercoat. More than two-thirds of it has been given a second undercoat and a coat of 'chassis black' gloss. Once all the wood and the steel bands have been brought to this stage it can be reassembled on the boiler and a final coat of gloss applied in situ. This will have to wait until there is a spell of warmer weather next spring. There will be plenty of other work to do in the meantime, however (CMWC website).

    UPDATE:

46443 - Ivatt Class 2, LMS-design... She was moved from her storage at Kidderminster Carriage Shed to The Engine House for display on 22 December, but will be away from The Engine House for cleaning at some point (SVR website and SVRA forum).

You have to drop the wheelset to change a spring??

2857 - Churchward, Ex GWR… She replaced 42968 (see above) on 26 and 27 December before she failed with a relatively minor fault on arrival back at Bridgnorth. 43106 in turn took her place. (SVRA forum).

The wheel drop also lifts up slightly. Meaning the weight of the axle is taken by the wheel drop rather than the spring.

7802 - Collett 'Bradley Manor', Ex GWR… Work is progressing well with the stripping of 7802 at Tyseley and the serious cleaning of the myriad of resulting filthy bits! The next step is the dropping of the wheelsets and bogie with work remaining on programme. The Erlestoke Manor Fund has its own small HQ on site and much of the stripping work to date has been achieved by its own SVR/EMF workforce of, usually, up to 6 to 8 members each time, generally on alternate Fridays and Saturdays. More assistance is always welcome (contact via ‘bradleyman’ on SVRA forum) and banter with friends working on 7820 is often freely available! It is also pleasing to report that the recently launched appeal for funding towards the boiler and tender is making good progress, having now reached almost one-third of the target (SVRA forum SVR-Online Forum :: View topic - 7802).

4566 - Small Prairie Tank, Ex GWR... had Christmas week off for washout, boiler exam and mechanical repairs. With the help of the volunteers over Christmas period 4566 has had her centre driving wheelset removed 3 January to repair the main frames (SVR Twitter and Facebook, 3 January).

From the SVRA forum, re 4566:

"This time the problem is with movement developing in the driving axle horn guides. So far, one of the four castings has been removed. There is fretting damage to the mating surfaces on the frame and cracking round the bolt holes which is being painstakingly ground out and built up with weld. Meawhile the casting has also been built up (or looks as though it has, I didn't ask) and remachined, and new fitted bolts are being turned. It now looks likely that all four 'corners' will need the same treatment".
