Yes I agree about the picture reproduction, in fact that tends to let the repro's down somewhat. I mentioned this on my feedback review on Amazon, as indeed others did, just so that future purchasers are aware.

Still, my original is in a rather delicate condition, so is now in honourable retirement, and the new one used for reference purposes.

Out of interest, was the original you found unmarked? If so that was a real find!

Thanks for that. Six coaches over the SVR will still "blow away the cobwebs". A very welcome visitor, and the speedy response to help out is much appreciated.

Put in a plucky performance with six on Saturday with Thunderbirds headboard! Not sure how she would have handled some wet rails as was slow up the bank out of Highley, and don't think eight would have been feasible in the dry. Great to have three steam, and satisfying to see the manor coming to rescue the class 50!

Panniers are well capable of taking eight over the valley. 57' & 77' have done it on a fairly regular basis in the past but, as with 4566, doing so frequently is now not favoured as it can be a bit hard on them.

On another note, SKP is out on test again this evening. He (She?) has reached Kidderminster. Fingers crossed (no pun intended) that the crosshead is happy this time after the work done to the lubricator.

As seen on SVRA forum and facebook. 34053 has made another run south to Kidder tonight.

I think it might have had pencil which although isn't as bad as pen, the damage is done.

And fortunately, the party bookings aren't excessive this week. The current 6 coach version of set L hasn't many opens and these are preferred for parties, especially coach ones.

I'm sure all shareholders and members of SLL are keeping everything crossed... Will have to get up there once its in regular service and try and guess where on the locomotive my £250 share contribution has been invested (an impossible task, but it is something that will always spring to mind)!

I like the nice touches of reprinting the old ads, well the 1952 reprint has them, 1963 does not but the layout of the '63 is easier to use I find.

According to SVR online Sir Keith Park has hauled it's first passenger train today in 47 years, although it wasn't planned; it came to the rescue of the pannier which was struggling at Arley.
She had already been to Kiddeminster this morning for further running in. Pictures are available on Bridgnorth facebook as well as 1501 now looking very complete. Both she and 2857 are due to be steam tested.

Pony trucks don't come into it, the quoted figure is the maximum tractive effort which is calculated from the bolier pressure, cylinder dimensions and driving wheel diameter. Small prairies have smaller cylinders than 57xx/8750s and hence a lower max t/e.

Would not the lower weight on the Prairie's driving wheels compared to a Pannier (look at the lengths Bulleid went to for 'total adhesion') have an effect on TE and real power though? As I recall small Prairie's were yellow route restriction on the GWR as opposed to 57xxs Blue (this was changed to yellow under BR), suggesting each axle was carrying less weight.

Note I did say max t/e, but the pony trucks do reduce the adhesion. 45xxs are 57 tons while 57xxs are 47.5 tons so the route restriction does show the effect of the pony trucks. Am I right in thinking 'total adhesion' refers to 36001?

I'd say 36001 enters the equation in the 'total adhesion' stakes, but you could say that about many 0-6-0 derivatives without a tender. Good news about 34053, though.

Big day today on the valley. Steam tests booked for 2857 and 1501, as well as 43106's end of washout cycle test. Heres hoping for a series of green lights! Wouldn't it be lovely to run our advertised service with all steam at the weekend...! Fingers, toes etc crossed.

2857 passed it's test and is in use tomorrow and the whole of next week. Fingers crossed, the roster for next week requires no diesels covering steam turns. Well done people!

2857 has today passed it's insurance exam and is immediately available for service. Congratulations and thanks must go to Duncan & co for their work on the boiler in the last few months.
2857 will take over the BS1 diagram tomorrow when it arrives at Bridgnorth. It will then haul CS2 on Saturday and BS3 (the dining turn) on Sunday.

43106 also passed its exam today and hauls BN1 tomorrow and throughout the weekend. The advertised steam service will, bar no nasty surprises, be run this weekend and all next week.

Any news re 1501, assuming it had an Insurance steam test today as well? Running in soon, or more mech. work to finish?

1501 was indeed due to have it's insurance steam test today, but I have not heard the outcome as of yet. Assuming it passed, running in is very near.
