Green would have been a western region special as with 82xxxs.

Still looks nice on certain loco's like 80135 and 75069. I do appreciate theres a fine line to be trod though. I for one would love to see a fully lined out 28xx in BR green, with all the embellishments Mr Rowlands insisited on. It would just look like a long 'manor' :)

Or we claim it's a pre-WW1 28xx (it isn't, 1918) and paint it dark green with orange lining. I know 2857 has carried the dark green before but don't think it was lined which was stopped during WW1. Actual only 2818 can really wear this livery as it still has inside steam pipes.

Although 2818 isn't the only inside piped 28xx remaining. 2873 at the south Devon is also an inside steam pipe example, although is post ww1 as is 2857.
I think unlined gw green and plain br black are all you're likely to see on '57.

Unlined GW green is fine by me, though you could go GW black for a change...

Unlikely but it's not a BR livery ;)

Not sure if '57 ever carried gw black in service. Will have to gave a trawl through the records.

In other news SVR engineering twitter feed has this afternoon posted a photo of Bradley Manor leaving the boilershop with a semi clad boiler now in the frames. Excellent to see another old favourite coming back together.

Br (late crest) black for the last 4(?)* or so years of its last ticket. Before that she carried the earlier gw green with "great Western" lettering on the tender and the porthole windows on the spectacle plate.

    * it was actually more like half that time. The BR black repaint was over the 91/92 winter with 2857 coming out of traffic Feb 95 (last steaming was 30 December 94).

In addition to 60163 on service trains on 10th/11th, 17th/18th, and 24th/25th, the SVR website now shows 46100 operating normal service trains on 17th/18th, and 24th/25th October.
Another visit in the diary methinks.

It's a very dark green and the photos from the time are playing tricks as I agree they do look very close to black. Colour reproduction can be a bit variable.

2857 as she was in 1994. Sometimes a quick dash after work paid off.
Only my opinion but, hasn't looked better. Must see if I can find a pre 91 shot.

Indeed and the good thing is that this is being advertised in advance to give people a chance to actually attend.

It is almost" Gala October" for the SVR's Golden Jubilee year. After a very good Autumn steam gala, and I assume a successful diesel gala, surely this will be a good year financially.

However I suppose the management have always a long list of expenditure that will take care of any surplus....

Hate to sound bigheaded but this would be a gala on other railways. Wow! And I feel homesick!

The drainage and track work on Eardington will be a fair bit.

Anything that involves civil engineering on our favorite 16 miles of track is never cheap. Its not sexy but paying for all those bits of work that mean those 2 bits steel 4"81/4 that mean we can argue about liverys cant be bad can it?
