I don't know perhaps they found that small engine events don't get people through the doors.

I'm looking forward to attending the gala but can only attendon the Friday. I enjoy riding up and down on the locals and hope to have a ride behind the crimson "Crab" and 813.

I thank Kje7812 for posting the timetables with the loco allocations but would like to know where I can find which way all the locos are they facing on the Friday so I can plan my journeys.

They should be on the website in the next week or so.

My comment was clearly intended as a joke.

I wonder if it passed across other peoples minds that the A1 maybe coming on a win/ win situation for both parties? The A1 could need the use of Bridgnorth works and have agreed a favourable hire/ works fee?

I did wonder if it's having a winter break in Shropshire. Edit, just had a look at the A1 steam trust's website and 60163's booked for 4 tours later on in the year, so that's a no then.

According to their website Tornado has 4 bookings in December down south so looks unlikely.

It wouldn't have a prolonged winter break in Shropshire because we don't have the space. As of January 4th, every SVR loco will be at Bridgnorth and we don't need another one plus support coach and then the workload to add to that. After her Belmond on the 4th November, she isn't working until December. So a 3-4 week stay may not be out of the realms of possibility.

Looking at the webpage it says pre book your ticket and save what exactly 18.00 if pre booked 1900 on the day the £1.75 booking fee means you do not save anything is this correct.

I never bother with the pre book and save crap, if it was something worthwhile like a fiver it be worth it but is it worth pre booking to save a quid?

Yes but it's been a long standing problem that if buying single tickets (as in a ticket for one), the booking fee makes it more expensive so you're out of pocket booking in advance.

I know what you mean about saving the quid hardly being a deal breaker though. I suppose the other benefit is you won't need to queue at the booking office mind.

For those booking for 2 or 3 days' travel: "Flexi-Rover Pre-book fares: these fares MUST be booked at least 5 working days in advance of your visit"

I've never found the queuing up a problem though, certainly at Kiddy if you get there early enough you may have to wait a bit but it's not that bad, and if there's a large queue the grippers on the train are more than willing to sell you a ticket.

Despite any lingering doubts suggested by some of the posts further up-thread, I see that Tornado is now being billed as a special guest locomotive at the Severn Valley Railway "Season Finale Gala" next weekend 5th/ 6th November (alongside guest Crab 13065. guest GW heavy freight 2-8-0 4270, and home-based 813/ 4566/ 7714 GW tank engines). This, at least is what both the A1SLT and SVR websites are saying as of this evening. Please forgive me if this info is already widely visible in the public domain and everybody already knew this anyway....but this wasn't the impression I was getting from the last few posts, and I know the A1SLT website has only just been updated.

Tornado is already committed to BBP Surrey Hills work on Friday 4th, but there's no sign as yet of an LE movement appearing on RTT to get Tornado into position on the SVR for Saturday's action.

So no let-up within what has proved to be a very busy schedule for Tornado of late. Glad to see its back so soon, especially as this time there's no imperative to play second fiddle to a £6.8 million Show Pony***....or anything else for that matter. It seems to be becoming a real regular at the SVR, and, mated with the rake of Gresley Teaks, I'm sure it would rank as one of the finest sights known to man anywhere on a heritage line in the UK. I've been having to get my Tornado "fix" on the main line of late (sorry, not a good choice of words, but I know you'll understand what I mean) so this will represent a nice change of scene.

*** Other rampant prejudices also available!!

    Apologies, I'm an idiot

If I had read down the page: Flexi-Rovers may also be purchased on-the-day from Kidderminster, Bewdley and Bridgnorth Stations.
