No that's quite fair enough. I wasn't suggesting that you should go looking for it - more a case of whether it had turned up by accident.

    Keep up the good work!

Hi folks, I'm back briefly. This weekend has been as active on the wagons as it has beentraumatic in my personal life, but such is life!
Firstly, we finally managed to remove the draw gear from Warwell E314153 and fit screw shackles and the appropriate draw hook, although with much cursing and swearing having looked at the work that the patent shafts had done on her in her industrial life.
As a follow up to pmh_74's question, I did have a look round, and there is a builders plate with the WD number about half way allong the sole bar shewing not only her WD number of WD1150, but interestingly for a wagon that ended up owned by the LNER, that she was built by the LMS!
40554 has also had some attention with the remaining sections of the floor feeling the breath of the oxy-accetelene torch, one section still needs levering out, partly down to the fact that my gassing is not as good as Steve's, and the next move here will be to cut and drill the new plates, before riviting the lot in. Finally, the end of this long and drawn out project appears to be in site.

    The plot thickens then...!
I'll have to seek out and have a look at this wagon next time I'm at the Severn Valley, although when that will be is anybody's guess. Any chance of a photo of the plate in the meantime?

OK no problem. Well, it will undoubtedly have moved before I get there (it isn't likely to be this year... I have too many projects of my own taking up time!) but I'll bear it in mind.

    Cheers,
    Phil

We have a very good revenue earning idea with the wagons and 2857 once she's back in traffic and settled down. We'll just need a really nice guard and I know just who to ask ....

Assuming you are saying what i think you are, yeah, i'd be up for it, it would depend if I can get the time off work. A reunion of as many of the Newport wagons as we can would be good.

Just a quick one, as Guards and firing turns have kept me away from Bewdley lately, but 40554 now has all the sections of her floor cut, and the centre section has been drilled, while the paint work on the Mica B recieved the attentions of Nigel and Terry on saturday.
This may seem like very little has happened, but when you actually see the work, you will see what a leap forward this is. There are times when you have to chip away at jobs like this, in order that the huge visual leaps can occur. Once the floor gets rivited into 40554, it will appear to leap forward very fast!

Sorry about the short break folks, i'm sure those of you involved in railway operations will know what i mean when i say this is down to it being "Silly season", meaning if i am not in a guards van, i'm on a footplate, on holiday, or occasionally at work.
Following some saftey training, we have now fitted a new canvass to the roof of the cattle wagon, now begins the potentially soul destroying tast of watching the first few coats of paint vanish into the fibers of the canvass.

For those of you who are unaware, this weekend is the SVRs peep behind the scenes weekend, where the 4150 group, for a small fee (Towards the restoration of the loco) will show people into normally closed off areas of the SVR, the down yard and wagon works should be open, so please feel free to come and say hello

Very popular in 2010, Peep Behind the Scenes is back in 2011 with lots of opportunities to see at first hand the dedicated work that goes into the restoration of our fleet of locomotives and carriages.

Talk to our backroom boys who will be only too pleased to share their enthusiasm for railway restoration and operation with you.

Timetable C will operate on both days.

Normal fares, but with an additional charge for wristbands which allow admission to some of our workshop and other facilities not normally open to the public. Our 'Summer Saver' fare is also valid for this event.

There will be guided tours of our workshops at Kidderminster, Bewdley and Bridgnorth and a shuttle train service between Kidderminster station and the carriage storage shed.

Our staff will be on hand to explain the work in progress and maybe, when you see the work that is done, you may wish to come and give a hand!

Normal fares apply. In addition, a wristband will be required for admission to our workshops and 'behind the scenes' facilities. These wristbands may be purchased on the day of your visit. [adult £5, child/senior £3]
Kidderminster – from the ‘4150’ Stand near Platform 1
Bewdley – the EMF Fund shop in the car park
    Bridgnorth – ‘4150’ stand on platforms 1 & 2

Click here to order online your tickets and wristbands http://www.svr.co.uk/TicketOffice.aspx.

Organised for the SVR by the 4150 Locomotive Group http://www.4150.org.uk/ - a major fund raising event for the group. Last year not only did we boost the profile of our engine but the money raised paid for the materials to rebuild the bunker. This year we hope to raise sufficient funds to pay for the materials for both tanks. The bunker is now at a very advanced stage and a cutting list for the tanks should be available before the end of the year.

After a weekend off, having a most enjoyable bank holiday at the South Devon, (Many thanks Ernestgew and friends, you guys made me feel so welcome) its back to Business in Bewdley Down yard.
The cattle wagon has recieved two coats of paint / linseed oil mix on the roof, we are now into the long winded cycle of paint it - let it soak in - paint it again.
Chaired sleeper wagon 40554 has had more work done on the floor, though other distractions this weekend slowed progress dramatically.
On the subject of other distractions, many thanks to everyone that came to the 4150 groups Peep behind the scenes weekend, for those who were there saturday, i was the guard on the teak set, and for those that turned up sunday, I was the guy on the wagons with the ripped jeans and the AC/DC T-shirt.
    Many thanks
    Olly

This weekend, preperations for gala weekend were top of the bill, although other distractions have slowed progress rather, but all has been going well. Not sure when the goods is running in the gala, owing to me still not having got a working time table. Hope that loads of people will turn out to see us, as I'm sure I echo the thoughts of many in saying the goods is a highlight of many galas, despite what the marketing men may think.
If anyone is visiting the SVR for gala weekend, i don't know if there will be anyone in the wagon works, but once my firing turn is done, i Shall be on the trains, feel free to say hi.
    Ian

It's an evening goods, mainly because of those marketing men.

That's a pity as it typifies the real railway. Other lines seem to be willing to run them during the day and I remember galas when the SVR did.
I appreciate there may be issues re paths, but a goods stopping off at stations en route for pathing reasons adds interest at said stations and gives people something to look at between trains.
