Not trying to steal Tom Clarke's or Olly's thunder, Tom on SVRA forum says:

    And:

The forum also suggests that in use will be the unfitted GW collection with a BR Bauxite brake at the opposite end to the Toad.

    Hope this is of interest

    Patrick (just reporting it!)

Well, this weekend has been one for drama, the wagon department being masters of leaving things late!
We will start with the Mica B which has had the first bit of Top coat applied.
Shunting interupted the proceedings on saturday, swapping two vans over, doing a little favour for the DMU group, move a p-way wagon and a coach, and other general re-arrangment.
The last minute hitch that has been causing us so much trouble with the cattle wagon is excessive wear in the brake hangers, the holes in which were found to be decidedly pear shaped. Following some gentle use of the gas axe, mild swearing, drilling, moderate swearing, more gassing, industrail strenght swearing, bolting and pinning they were finally fitted last thing on sunday, leaving only some touching in of the paint and an exam before the wagon will be ready for traffic. So despite the reports from D1039, I can't confirm weather it will be running in the gala or not, either way, it will be close.
Those of you about at gala, I am firing on friday evening on 4566, after 15.30, other than that, celebrating (Or comiserating) my birthday in a bar car somewhere, feel free to say hello
    Olly

News flash ...... Message recieved from Bewdley last night, final touching in and examination on the cattle wagon has been done, well done to everyone, this overhaul has been affected by repairs to the good shed roof, foul weather, having to lay in pools of mud for hours at a time, last minute discoveries, to name but a few issues, well done to everyone concerned, as for weather it is actually in the gala, I'm guessing I shall have to wait untill friday to see if we made it in time!

Have you got your note pads ready boys and girls? Good! Cos here we go! The cattle wagon HAS made it in time for the gala, but for reasons that would take far more energy than i have to explain on here, it now WILL NOT be running in a passenger train as booked. Instead, it is now coupled inside of the BR standard brake van, at the Kidderminster end of the goods train.
If this seems a little last minute for people, please bear in mind that at least you know as much as anyone else on this matter, I on the other hand, have a firing turn tomorrow, and owing to loco availabilitys, still don't know what I'm on, where I relive my mate or what time!
Hopefully see you all there! Olly

Just a little appology, as with the gala followed by thomas weekend, I have not been on the wagons to be able to update this thread. With a bank holiday looming followed by another thomas hopefully you won't have all wondered off before I can give my next update.

I'm finally back, after a prolongued absence. By the time you read this, the LNWR van and LMS brake van should have come out of the engine house, to make room for other exibits. In the confines of the engine house (One side involved squeezing up between the wagon and a platform) no horror stories were found, although, surprisingly for wagons that have been undercover for 4 years, there was a lot of water in some of the axle boxes, odd indeed!
I would have something to report from sunday too, but I was called in as emergency cover to cover a sick fireman! Hopefully next week will yield more info.

Thanks for the update Ian! Ah that'll be our (2857 soc.) brake van then. I didn't even know it was coming out. Any plans afoot to pair it and the LNWR box van with the coal tank in September? Would be lovely to see.

Wouldn't be condensation would it? With the large variation in climate temperatures over the last couple of years.

I doubt it. The Engine House is a fairly controlled environment.

Condensation is rather unlikely in certainly not a whole axle box full! As for running the LNWR box van with the coal tank, I don't know, but I highly doubt it, but I won't find out untill almost the gala anyway!

Just a very quick update this week. The north end of the Mica B has had a coat of top coat. This project has been blighted by other issues forcing it constantly onto the back burner, but hopefully now we are talking weeks rather than months, so our own Mess van can go in for repair.
    Wish us all luck.

well, unfortunately, everyones shift patterns and other commitments has made progress slow lately, however, the floor on 40554 is now ready for riveting, although our nice new compressor has broken down and the motor has had to go away for repair. We can do the job with the old compressor, but it makes it rather long winded and with so many rivets to do, stopping every four or five to let the air built up would make for a long day, so we await the return of the newer machine!

The Mica B finally has lettering on it! The river side of the Mica is now done, with the ends recieving top coat on saturday. As yoiu can immagine this is a huge mental boost too us.
The chaired sleeper wagon is progressing slowly, with the stancion brackets comming together. Unfortunately, parts of this wagon have had dammage to the paint that had previously been applied, so a rub down and re-paint has been needed. The major hold up here now being a broken down compressor which is holding the riveting up!
Fingers crossed the Mica shouldn't take long, but there is a list of other jobs to start once that is done, not least being our own mess van!
    Wish us well!

Sorry about the delay since my last up date, but here goes.
The Mica B now has some nice red letters and numbers on it. The Chassis was done a few years back, before the repair was side lined for a while, so is now getting some touching up, but this wagon should not be far off now.
The Chaired sleeper wagon has had primer on the floor for so long the paint has become badly dammaged by us constantly walking on it and dragging materials over it, so this has recieved a flat down, and re-prime. The new compressor, which has been under repair, has come into its own here, as flatting down has been carried out using the big wind motor and wire brush, which with the old compressor would only run for about 2 minutes at a time, so having the extra air has made a massive difference.
Don't forget Peep Behind the scenes weekend at the end of this Month, feel free to come and see us,
    Wish us luck

I seem to be saying the same things over and over again at the moment, today was spent reaming stancion brackets for 40554, or more accutately, with a bridge reamer largely standing still, and a wind motor rotating me in a circle!
Richard had more sucess finishing off the last new bracket, and repairing the only re-usable one, so hopefully we can kick on with the riveting next weekend.
Don't forget to come and say hello for Peep behind the scenes weekend next week, but please remember, we are still a working railway and there are hazzards, so please stay behind barriers and roped off area when asked to do so
    Take care!

Sorry for the late post this week, last weekend we riveted most of the floor into 40554 over friday and saturday. A big well done to all concerned there, a big leap forward for this wagon. Hopefully that will be finished this weekend, ready for the addition of the chain pockets.

Haven't actually been on the wagons this weekend, but i did pop into Bewdley yesterday, and can reveal that 40554's floor is now completely riveted in, and most of the stanchion brackets are done too! Its finally moving allong.
