Oh dear :( As I've posted before, painting a monster Van in the barn in February with snow flakes fluttering in, and the paint almost frozen it's so thick isn't a lot of fun!

I will not make any comment about our shed at Newbridge then.
Currently 6 Items of stock in there at the moment.
2 (My snowplough NER 18 and the Gresley Coach) are on long term storage
The other 4 are being worked on as and when.
Seacow 982667, Lowmac 217315, Rudd Spoil wagon and the 15T Coles Crane.

Warm storage? Or proper Northern cold conditions that us southern wimps can only begin to imagine?

Compared to yours, our conditions will be positively Arctic then........ given we're further South.... whatever the weather brings, it don't like wagons wherever they maybe...... if only for a nice warm heated undercover space to work in over the period, than trying to ladle paint on that doesn't want to go where you want it to........

We like to keep it cool as we don't want to become "Nesh"
When we are in residence like today, the doors are open and we can sit inside at the coffee table, complete with tablecloth and think of everybody else getting cold and soaking wet.

In reality the space is too big to heat so we don't, we paid out £15K to insulate with spray foam.
The 2 main advantages of this are that it does maintain a fairly steady temperature, We do not get rained by condensation dripping off the roof purlins as we used to get.

Next project away from vehicles must be to improve the Lighting and power supply.

Also a familiar story! But we manage, our collection of free standing halogen lamps do a lot of work.

Err, and now that we from other Rly's have "hijacked" your thread  for the common good.interest has peaked?................... :) ;)

Ollie, I realise this is primarily for the SVR, but it seems to me, we all face common problems & conundrums......... where info can be shared & exchanged to aid each other, so maybe instead of this thread being SVR centric, you could get a mod to change the title, so that we can all report progress on our respective lines, and ask relevant questions to unencountered problems...... what say you Sir?......

I started writing this series of threads a few years ago to bring people up to date with what the SVR Wagon department are doing, while I appreciate people may want to bounce ideas off each other, I don't intend to change my thread into a general thread for all groups, plenty of people from other groups have started threads in the same vein.

Fair comment, it was just a thought.......

Though the problem with separate threads is, they and the info within, generally tend to disappear, Soooo........ I for one will continue to "Hijack" this thread! ;)

I have no problem with people asking questions and seeking advice but perhaps a separate thread would be better for more general questions.

Nah, we'll just keep asking you lol!

Mainly because the problems you face, most of us it would seem, also face.........

Olly, sorry if I "got your goat", that was not the intention! ;)

So, would you care you care to start a general wagon & maintenance thread where we can all contribute, and let yours get back to normal?.......... :)

Don't worry, you didn't, but I am afraid I hardly have enough time (As many of you will be aware) to maintain this thread, so I would prefer if there is a call for a more general Q and A forum that someone else who wants to ask questions started and looked after it

Well, after a productive weekend at Bewdley, here is the latest update.
The gun powder van is moving forward, with work commencing on a new door lintel for the river side door. This is once of those deceptively complex shapes, with a number of cut outs thrown in for good measure, that makes me glad that we have a couple of lads that are good with wood, as it is not a job I envy!
The vanfit, which now has a complete new side, in undercoat, has been got ready for repainting the roof canvass, by way of a good scrub, revealing that it is actually grey, not just dirty (as someone beautifully put it) and most of the buckets of water used to rinse the roof off hit their target and missed the people on the ground!
I hope to bring you more news next week!
    Olly

Severn Valley Railway Official Site Facebook added 3 new photos.
Our ‪#‎volunteers‬ do many unseen things. A small team at Bewdley restore and maintain wagons, an important part of the railway heritage. These photos show some of their recent work on ex-BR Cattle Wagon B890154, ex-GWR Ballast Wagon 60906 and ex-GWR ‘MICA B’ Van 105873. These were not easy restorations, but look amazing.
Thanks for the photographs to Gareth Price © Copyright Gareth Price
