Sadly the rescue loco won't be quite as exciting as that! 50 049 was being prepped to rescue and return the convoy to the SVR. Presumably the attendance of the Deltic, Warship and 20's at the gala is now in some doubt. Someone forgot to order the good luck.

Convoy reported heading north back to Kidderminster behind 50.049. Through Cheltenham at 17:12.

Thanks to Bill (no, the other one). <BJ>

Good on Swanage for clarifying the situation so promptly. I for one am still heading thither - the 57 alone makes it worth it! Oh and not forgetting the beer. And the 50. And the 27, 33 and 73. And the pier. And thefish & chips. And the women in bikinis (well I am allowed to dream). But yes, I'll be there!

Considering the problems running up to the event, Friday was a great show and the weather topped it off perfectly. So what if the Standard 4 had to fill in for the unavailable diesels, it made for some good alternative traction, especially for those who were just visiting for the day not knowing about the gala. (I did bump into one or two.)

It was great to see the 50 working again and the 27 was superb. The staff were as usual very friendly. A special thanks to the Corfe signalman for allowing us a visit to the new impressive box.

My only gripe was not one I would have if I were on my own, but I had my 4 year old in tow. Just as we pulled out of Swanage he declared that he needed to use a toilet (typical child) and every toilet on the set was signed as not in use.

Apart from that, a great day and I look forward to next year's event. I may even venture down to see Calbourne as it was mighty impressive yesterday at the MHR.

Hopefully I'll get some pictures put on the flickr site within the next couple of days for both events.

I'm in the process of uploading mine to Flickr at the moment. He're one of the quirkier ones:

I've still quite a few to go, but all being well the rest should be up within a day or two.

Had a fantastic weekend down at Swanage regardless of the lack of loco's,the weather certainly helped but those who didn't travel surely missed out,the 50 is stunning, sounded superb on the runs I had with it,look forward to getting behind it much more in the future, well done to all who have spent much time getting her back!

The 27 was also brilliant, that also sounded on top form as did the other performers at the gala. A great event, the first time I have been to a Swanage diesel gala having been to many other events in the past there, thanks to all involved,I will definetly return next year!
