    Yes I am an active volunteer
    Details are still being added to the website as we speak, but the open weekend went down a treat last year with lots of new volunteers being recruited in various departments.

    You can prebook individual activities as part of the weekend, including driving 08436 at Swanage Station.

    Come along and “Try if for yourself” at the Community Open Weekend at the Swanage Railway on the 17th and 18th of February!
    After the success of last years Community Open Weekend, the event is making a welcome return for 2024 with a few extras to look forward to.
    We have added a range of pre-bookable activities which are making their way onto our website. These activities give you a chance to try a wide range of roles at the railway for yourself, as well as signal box tours for just £5 per activity. These include;
    - Harmans Cross Signal Box Tour
    - Corfe Castle Signal Box Tour
    - The Ticket Inspector Experience*
    - The Guard Experience*

    We also currently have pre bookable slots to drive our class 08 shunter 08436 from Swanage Station to our storage sidings and back for just £20! These are already booking fast so book soon to avoid disappointment!
    We will also have one of our steam locomotives in light steam for footplate visits at Swanage Station, as well as one steam locomotive hauling return trips between Swanage and Norden each day.
    The Purbeck Mineral and Mining Museum at Norden Station will be open for visitors and the narrow gauge railway will be in operation performing demonstration shunting of wagons along their line. They will be open between 11am and 3pm on both days.
    A range of heritage coaches and wagons will be on display at Corfe Castle Station and some of our volunteers will be there to discuss the work that is done to keep them looking their best.
    We will also have a demonstration from the “Crane Gang” at Norden, showing the vital assets that are Swanage’s resident lifting cranes! This will be viewable from the station platform.
    Book your tickets and find out more about the event here -
