No it was worse on March 1st, no sun. I went out to Townsend Bridge and got soaked. Still at least this includes the the now removed Corfe Distant in the shot.

I purchased from the Corfe book a wagon the Kingfisher Video Steaming Along the Swanage Branch which ends in about 2004. Having watched a large number of loco that I had forgotten had operated on the line, I wondered if there is a publication that includes a list of everything that has operated on the branch in Preservation?

    Something for the weekend, Sir?

‘U-Boat’ 31806 announces that it is ready to take over duties from the Standard 4 for the next few days.

Evening entertainment at Swanage and beyond.

D6515 added to the front of the 18:00 Swanage to Norden to get D6515 onto the national network to rescue a failed Class 47 at Weymouth.

Surely, keep the Crompton on the service train and send the T9 to Weymouth.

Seriously though. Why not run round the A4 and let it work the train at 45mph to Wareham, the Crompton would then pick up the duty. Instead, the service is running 120+ minutes late.

Tender first A4 hauling load 9 (including 3 Met-Camm Pullmans) up Bincombe Bank would have been 'heroic' I would have thought.
Also, I believe it would not be too easy to attach the Crompton at Wareham under current arrangements.
Then you'd have extra delays at Southampton whilst 60009 shunted to it's scheduled position at the western end of the rake to resume haulage via Romsey and Andover.

Agreed - get it moving and then attach the 33 later on. Or T/F to Soton UGL, run round and carry on as planned.

I understand that Pete Roberts reckoned there were at least two coaches too many to attempt the climb out of Weymouth single handed and tender first. Probably good decision as I believe it did not assist the 33 until Parkstone as there may have been an issue with steaming.
63.5 miles to Southampton T/F is a long way at 45mph, plus Brookwood for water would be many miles too far.

But as the T9 only has 2 or 3 years left before the boiler certifcate expires and the loan from the NRN finishes, is it worth getting mainline certification.
The T3 is being rebuilt, so makes sense to get it mainline certified so it can do special excursions to repay the rebuild and then earn money for the Swanage Railway long term?

No one was seriously suggesting mainlining the T9,it was a very tongue in cheek comment.

I believe it’s Swanage railway policy to do all overhauls to mainline mechanical standards though. Presumably that includes the T3 and T9 (if loan is extended). Doesn’t mean they will go mainline, but it always leave the option only.

Never in a 100 years will you see the T3 or the T9 on the main line no matter how the overhauls are done,

should have sent the U boat along also, imagine the look of disbelief at seeing the U class with 33 coupled inside heading up the main when people were expecting to see an A4
