I don't know if they all didn't have em,i was only having a go at those who didn't (they know who they are, surely!) The one i had an arguement with for example,i don't know where he was before 10am but from then till lunch he was at Quarr and from then onwards at Corfe,if he had a rover it wouldn't of been worth buying! How do i know this? As for those near Corfe most (some people definetly did have tickets) of the folk remained in exactly the same spot for most of the day,its fairly easy to tell which ones won't of had a ticket, the ones i were near said "We were at the MHR to see them yesterday....bloody sun went in when the Super D went past etc etc" They then moaned about it been tender first, and then were on about which locations they were going to later in the day and then going to see Tornado, doubtful they had a 3 day rover then? I'm mainly having a go about those who went on at me,i am sorry but i pay for a ticket and contribute to be told that i'm in somebodys place, the particular bloke moaned at just about everything from paintwork to the way locos were facing the sun angle,Tornado's times all for what? Him to get a phot thats what.... Sorry to those who did have rover's who will feel annoyed with me,in fact most of you probably do,but then thats nothing new is it? I just wish i could hold myself back from argueing but i end up going on at the wrong people,i just get fed up of individuals......

I wasn't getting at you. I know there are some photters who will just free load, but alot I was speaking to (me included ) had a rover ticket and didn't use it all and got 0 miles, just so the railway got something out of it. Its all too easy to say that they are all freeloading. But it is daft when people moan about ''stealing a spot'', as they never owned it and shouldnt have moved if they wanted it.

    Anyway was a good event

Interesting train of thought that if you haven't got a rover you're not contributing...that is one hell of an assumption.

I think the argument about "freeloaders" has been done to death so I have no interest in entering into that debate.

Sounds like I (and two fellow photters) where stood near you at some point then...

I never assumed that, and i think your camera is considerably better than the guy who told me to move?

I was the one who didn't say a word, just listened in amusement.....

Just to answer a few points that you have made.....

Anything much bigger and we would not have been able to fit in the bay road at Swanage.

Our gala ran for over 14 hrs and 45 minutes.

If you compare the cost with other galas you get nearly double the amount of hours running for only £2-£3 more.
You get timetable and loco diagrams well in advance. An online brochure to download. All this at no extra charge.
I would call that excellent value for money

There was a gala earlier in the year that charged £18 for a rover ticket, £5 for a WTT (inc loco diagrams) and ran for about 8hrs. Now compare that with the above and I think you can work out where the better value for your money goes.

This is one of my shots from Saturday,

I am going to sort out the other shots later today, but these pictures show No 88.

It looks as if I was further down the field from Photo Matt. He was tight more steam visible on Saturday morning.

Alberta appears to have had more success with the glint shots on Saturday.

I would like to thank the two chaps with cameras who helped me find my wife's car keys.

Can any of the Swanage guys say roughly how many BR era freight wagons are servicable? I'm think of charter potential... thanks.

From tomorrow it is expected that 34028 will be in traffic. 34070 will be out on Saturday for her rededication ceremony.

There are quite a few more around that can be run, but for this particular gala it was decided to run into the bay and have fully fitted vehicles. For a charter we could put together more vans & wagons and run unfitted.

If you have something specific in mind, worth giving the railway a call - with the peak season out of the way there are more possibilities for fitting charters in.

Thanks, I did a double take when I saw the M7 running in the opposite direction to the one I had expected.

Has anyone taken a picture of the two Standard tanks and Eddystone running together on Sunday night?
