I have been asked by the person who is doing the planning to inform you all that plans are well under way for this years steam gala. We hope to have 7 engines and to be running an intensive service from 0930 at the latest with some trains running to at least midnight. It is hoped to include at least one freight train and an evening beer train. More information when details have been finalised.

Have been told that the organiser hopes to run a freight train at the start of the day and at reasonable regular intervals during the day and not just a token up and back effort.
First passenger train at about 0900 (from Swanage) and last one getting back about 2346.

But he wouldnt tell me about 2 guest engines.

I offered him vast amounts of beer but he wouldnt tell me....What a swine...

Sounds like a good idea to me! There is a choice of two galas that weekend, the Swanage and Llangollen. Which one I go to depends on the programme. The Swanage is always the favourite because its closer and doesn't need a B&B. But the Llangollen always puts on a good show.

    Regards

Judging by previous timetables, you're looking at passenger trains every 40 minutes from Swanage, and every 20 minutes from Norden. 60+ departures from Corfe on the Saturday, last train arriving at Swanage a quarter to midnight.

Add in the full resident fleet and a couple of visitors and that sounds like a pretty good show to me :smt002.

How do you get twice as many departures from one end of the line comapred to the other? (train departures every 20 mins from Norden, every 40mins from Swanage)

Swanage operates 2 x Swanage - Norden- Swanage sets and a Norden - Harmans Cross - Norden set.

Thats how you get more from Norden than Swanage...

If the Diesel Gala is anything to go by it will be a cracking gala....

hmm I'm now torn, good choice of galas that weekend, these two or the severn valleys beer festival :-k Swanage is closer to home but I'm going there in August, Llangollen is miles away but SVR has beer and I think that wins it for me.

I will combine the Swanage gala with a trip on the Waverley from Southampton. The beer on the Waverley and the Balmoral is utter rubbish but I take some decent stuff with me. The pubs in Corfe also have a pretty poor reputation but I have only once been served a bad pint and that was changed without any problem.

    Cheers

Alan you should try the Red Lion in Swanage. I haven't heard anyone of our regulars who all drink there complaining about their beer.

I've always been very fond of the Fox in Corfe, tucked away a bit but nice and small, with a landlord who usually knows how to keep a pint. Can also agree with the recommendation of the Red in Swanage, an all round excellent place.

Nothing confirmed regarding gala yet, but believe there is a possibility of a "folk & beer" carriage on one of the trains.
