Anybody know if there is an absolute limit Companies house will allow for accounts to be delayed even with objections? Or do they just let things linger on forever?

In December there was a new Act of Parliament called the Corporate Transparency Act. This wiped out the way small Companies could supply the bare minimum of information on their balance sheet and compelled them to publish a profit and loss account. Shock horror! But it doesn't seem to have had much effect yet ...

There is a similar reluctance to disclose any financial information about the Teifi Valley Railway Society which is a charity. The financial information needed is limited to total income and expenditure but even this is secret. On January 16th the Commission reported that the report was 442 days overdue. When I queried this I was told that there was "nothing wrong." Looking round the Commission website it seems that they don't investigate or prosecute until accounts are overdue for 2 years. Some time to go then.

Does anyone know if the railway is open over the Easter holiday please?

I have emailed them, but no reply.

Their website at the moment wishes everyone a Happy Christmas!

It amazes and disappoints me that there are quite a few Heritage Railways that don't maintain their websites. These days it is probably the first port of call for most would be customers.

Their last Facebook post is 9th January about Alan George's overhaul. Didn't even bother posting in December about their Santa services.

Answering my own question, I have just seen on Facebook that the railway is open for Easter.

At long last Companies House have agreed that it is quite legal to continue in business without sending in any Accounts. All you have to do is file an objection to closure. Then as they say "when an objection is made the objector will receive information of how long it will be in place for and information on how to renew if required."

News that another baby railway in west wales has obtained a massive grant to set itself up as a tourist attraction - the Llanelli railway at the former Cynheidre colliery. £60k ! Meanwhile the Henllan railway fades into oblivion.

I'd hardly call that "massive". I don't know about Wales, but where I live that wouldn't even buy you a single garage.

The grant at Cynheidre essentially covers the cost of providing mains electricity to the site. I'm not sure it will ever become much of a tourist attraction given its location and multitude of pacers and stored EMUs.

Approaching 10 years under the reign of the New Management. What state is the TVR in ? Of the 2 miles of track only 800 yards have been relaid - but news a donation of sleepers has been received. The track is completely overgrown by brambles and young trees. Both steam locos are in pieces still. Neither the Society, the Cafe or the TVR have bothered to publish their annual Accounts for years so no news of how things are going - Cafe last news December 1017. TVR and Society December 2020. Get the feeling managing a railway is too difficult and they have concentrated on running a children's playground tourist attraction. No worries about crew rostering, carriage and track maintenance,...

    Yes none!!!

The other thing is it’s in a much better state than if they hadn’t stepped in.

Please give it a rest! Whatever may have happened between you and the railway, it's not doing either side any good to have these constant whinging posts.

Find yourself another heritage project and move on.

I have followed this sorry tale from the beginning and I can see no justification for your remark.

I’m not quite sure what that is supposed to mean?

If they hadn’t stepped in there wouldn’t be a railway at all. Therefore it’s definitely in a better position than not existing at all.

Ironically, I see no justification for Elizabeth constant sniping but there you go,…

We have seen on other threads where a single disgruntled volunteer seeks to pick holes in everything that the management of the railway does. The only result of this is unhappiness for the volunteer and bad PR for the railway.
The TVR management team are unlikely to change their approach so the best bet is to move on and stop firing shots at the railway. That does no-one any good.

But this is not the case. Once the present situation had become established, there was no opportunity for an alternative and likely more competent team to recover the railway. What remains is hardly worthy of the description railway.
