Not sure if it was my phone or network (o2), but I had trouble sending a start request text for t0513a today. Kept getting message not sent error "error synchronising". Finally went on the 3rd or 4th attempt.

Has anyone tried the friend referral system yet?
I want to know if it needs anything else doing to it.

I have revamped the tours page.
    https://www.railtour-live.co.uk/login/tours.php
This will solve tour codes entered in wrongly.
It also shows new information, how many members are subscribed for tours, which tours have GPS tracking, and which tours have members on board who are willing to send in updates.
Any problems, please let me know.

Any chance of a confirmation text after the first update is sent to confirm that the information is correct. I set up a message template for Saturdays run to Shrewsbury but put to many s's in NATPRES so my first few updates were not sent out.

    Ahh it was you, lol.
Thank you for your efforts though,
we can monitor the updates as the come in live, however can can't moderate the same messages.
It is defiantly something we're going to be looking into, normally, when I am monitoring the system, and I spot problems, I let the user know and I re-post the correct message.

We are looking at ways to simplify the system, if you or anyone else has any ideas, please contact us.

I am a bit confused about why the latest live update for this coming Thursday's Swanage Belle is reading Basingstoke 10.34am........ have we started a "predict the timings" competition?

Not quite, that is the last message for last years tour on this code. I am going to go through the database later today, removing all the old tours.

I see, I've had a bookmark with a different, obviously old address 'http://railtours.national-preservation.com/', which worked fine up to now. I'll update my bookmarks, thanks for the prompt reply.

We're currently building a function, where you can subscribe to multiple tours at the same time.

Can I ask a question please? Not being critical, but would it be possible to prevent multiple texts from the same location? Obviously getting multiple texts from one place uses your credit up. Often when I intend to send a text from somewhere, someone beats me to it so I don't bother, ie from Tilehurst this morning with the A4.

We will refund any duplicate text without any issues at all.
eventually, we're going to put in place a system that detects if there is more then 1 text within any time period, say 5 minutes, you'll properly still get the sms but won't be charged. (It may be a better one then the one before).

    Railtour live

I usually sign in online before the tour starts. The website confirms your tour subscription so you don't need the confirmation text, so you could unsubscribe from those. Also, there are unlikely to be updates before the tour gets underway, so you could unsubscribe from those texts too. If you're out following a couple of different tours though you may need some of those confirmations, so you may need to set up which texts you require before you set out. Also, anyone can send in an update if they know the code. You don't need to be on the train or even subscribed to the tour. Depending on your mobile phone account you may have a number of free texts you can send too.

    Hope that helps a bit.

Re: Cathedrals Express to Chester Saturday 10 September

I suggest you ask on here the week before if anyone is travelling, and will be sending updates.
With 500+ charters each year, It is unlikely than members of the forum will be on all of them and sending updates.
This is the third time Tornado has done this trip, so most enthusiasts who wanted to travel behind on this run , have probably done so already.
I have been on the ones behind The Duchess and Lizzie and sent on the later ( cannot remember if i did on the former). I am hoping Scots Guardsman will be on one of the runs next year. If it is and I am on it, I will be sending updates.

This trip was also the same day as a number of Galas/events - Nene Valley, Didcot etc and the weather forecast was not that promising, so potential linesiders who might have sent updates, could have been elsewhere.
