You can run round in Poole Yard (when the C/E points are fixed) and you can run round in plats 2, 3 and (maybe)4 at Bournemouth...

Thanks Steve1015. Will have a look again in Bomo when I next go over to Uni on the train as I've obviously totally misremembered the track layout as a no passing loop option.

Maybe it's felt to be in better shape right now more recently shopped?
Hope yesterday was just a misjudgement in terms of the single loco rather than an act of bravado gone wrong. The experts seem to feel that coming to grief was more likely than success but clearly the planners believed the reverse.

The 23.31 arrival back in Victoria next Thursday doesn't leave a lot of margin for anyone travelling any distance to get home afterwards.

Hope the watering arrangements for the two Black 5s, which sounds very sensible motive power for the switchback Pompey route, don't mess things up on the return. EDIT. No they can't, from the SD web site it's booked a box back from Salisbury to Victoria.

My old rule for German steam strips in the first part of this century was to always book a hotel in the town of departure/arrival back just to make sure of having a bed that night! Except in Bavaria of course where I always wished for a late arrival back and some help from certain locals.

    Oh bother, caught out.

I was thinking abut who would be putting me up in Bavaria if I hadn't got a hotel room for the night!

And as the above quote still mentions the return trip, ( I initially took the details from UKsteam.info), the SD web site is showing it as diesel hauled back from Salisbury to Victoria. So hopefully no water stop will be needed!

I have sent uksteam.info an email re the above.

Thanks KY. The fives now return directly from Salisbury to Southall via Reading. Otherwise they would have been caught by an engineering block and not get back to Southall until 06:00 the following morning.

45407 slipped to a stand at Pulborough in 2007 with a train from Littlehampton (admittedly in the path right behind a stopping service train). Someone fired up the 37 on the back and that sped things up considerably.

Given lack of LE paths out of Victoria and in to Salisbury on RTT, wondering if box will be on back all day?

Class 8, Class 7 or Class 5 you cannot escape the limitations of adhesive weight. Couple this with high peak over mean T.E. on two cylinder engines and poor rail conditioning and you are inviting trouble. The locomotive shortage is a problem no doubt. Perhaps IR does need another 5 in order to cover more eventualities.
