Yes, some lovely Bulleid chatter followed by some good old 47 thrash! Best of both worlds!

When we're talking about coaching rakes/heating then the stock used and it's condition is the main factor, the Steam Heat on the TY01 rake that VT use I can confirm from personal experience works very well, I haven't used any WCRC vehicles in winter so can only go on others opinion of their steam heat.

It's also worth bearing in mind VT have considerably less coaches than WCRC to maintain, VT probably have an active pool of 12 or less, WCRC's operational fleet has to be easily in excess of 50 vehicles.

'Tangmere' through Keynsham, Bristol, 2 mins early on the return. Very noisy for the punters
in the last coach although a few may be enjoying the sound of a 47 working flat out. <BJ>

After having watched various film sequences of Tangmere today between Salisbury and Bristol, I must say that the loco and stock looked superb in the winter sunshine. Thankfully in 2012 we can still enjoy steam on the main line. Long may it continue. <BJ>

At least I'm not a pro-diesel "nut". By the way, I've seen enough 47's over the years to tell the difference between idling & actually working. Enterprises's video says it all.

Really? Sounds like you've gone out your way to see a lot of them. Not hiding in the closet are you?

Whilst we may not like boxes on the back there are examples of where a loco has failed, without a box on the back, which has caused disruption e.g. Tangmere's slippage just the other week or inconvenience to the passengers on the tour e.g. Scots Guardsmans LRT tour the other month which meant we had to sit in a siding for 2hrs waiting for backup. There is of course many examples where the boxes have gone along for the ride & done nothing!

HOWEVER, I'd imagine that this tour it would be mandatory to have a box on the back for NW to approve the route, due to the Portsmouth section being very busy, plus you have the 2 single track sections between Botley & Eastleigh plus Eastleigh & Romsey - I'm sure all hell would brake loose if any loco failed in either of those sections.

    Off to Cosham now :)

Just to be clear, I didn't film that clip. I believe the chap who did is a NP member though.

Now reported on time through Fareham... Must've been held at the junction?

As the network used to be flooded with them, you did not have to go "out of your way" to see them, hence the remark "over the years".
I take great exception to your last sentence, it can be taken the wrong way. Almost worthy of reporting.

Here she is departing Salisbury this lunchtime - mobile phone picture, due to picking up camera and finding battery was flat (I'm an amateur at that sort of game!)

Anyway, looking at the photo, I just noticed she has a second crest under the cabside number. Is that an original feature, or post-preservation. Can't say I have ever noticed it before. Do any other BoBs have a crest there?

A quick look on Google brought up an image of 34067 in BR Days with a higher sided tender and the cabside crest.

Here is my video from today, with 34067, 60163 and 35028 all put into one film. I filmed 34067 at Portchester, Funtley (the clip that has caused the previous 3 pages of arguments!), Chandlers Ford and Hedge End, 60163 at Sonning Cutting and 35028 at Chertsey.

    The link is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiO0mgqKYHE

I wish to apologise to the mods for kicking the diesel on the back argument off again! :sorry:

I hate those Class 450s much more than DOTB!
